I ask this because I have just received some advice from women which could fall into two camps: Realistic and morally appropriate eg "I would never do that".

alot of women just say what sounds good and not what they really think. Much like men. We often just say what we knoe is the right thing to say instead of what we honestly know we would do in a sitution or instead of what we know is the truth.

I am a man, but I've found that you don't know anyone as well as you think you do, until a crisis comes and then you find out who your real friends are. My wife died in June suddenly an all the people I thought were my closest friends were gone - nowhere to be found. No love, concern at all. Most of them didn't even send me a card. I don't know how you can go out to supper with me one day and then not talk to m e the next. Only difference is she's gone. 2 people I really didn't think were friends have called each and every week since she died. They've proven themselves friends. But I never would have known that before.
that's my take on it. It doesn't matter if you are a woman or not.

No, no one knows another as well as they think. Everyone has their own opinions and the advice you get here is simply others giving their opinion of what they would do in your situation. No one knows you, nor do they know the exact situation your in. You make the ultimate choice based on who you are and your own moral character. Life is always filled with choices, some may seem making the best of bad situations, the question is which choice are you going to make?

there is a possibility that some of the answers you have received were not really from women... many men like to pose as women on the internet... since you can't really tell who you are talking to without a direct web cam...

I have met woman who have given advice so they can look good in front of there Friends but the advice was crap, as long as it did not effect them, they were not really bothered.
