Some people say just get one good one, I have the room but if you have multiple drivers is it not better to have more surface area moving? What are the pros and cons of them?

The subs are Rockford Fosgate Phase 3's 12 inch, with a duel 4 ohm voice coil.

4 subs is overkill. maybe 10 years ago 4 would be ok, but if you get 2 quality drivers in a box that there suppose to be in, you can go wrong. here are some brands i highly recomend looking into.

Boston Acoustics
Diamond Audio
Pioneer Premier
Image Dynamics

good luck

As long as there's no reduction in power to each sub, then adding more subs results in more volume. The downsides: more subs require more power, which means adding or upgrading amplifiers and more load on the alternator; more subs take up more space, reducing cargo area; more subs add more weight to the vehicle, which makes the engine work harder, reduces acceleration and burns up more fuel.

If your primary goal is to be as loud as possible, then the more subs the better. If you're just looking for good, balanced sound inside the vehicle, then one subwoofer in a well-designed box is as much as most people need.

This a dumb question and the answers are even dumber. If you want an even remotely valid answer specify what size and brand of subs.

2 12" high quality subs vs. 4 8" low quality subs?

2 subs of the same brand and type vs. 4?

One good sub is definitely better than 2 or 4 junk subs.

Define what the options are and then you'll get a real answer. More is most certainly not better. The SIZE and SPECIFIC SUB will make a huge difference in asnwering this question.

a good sub might mean it has more xmax and more sensitive so it requires less power but still puts out same spl. compared to 2 crappy subs

a 3db increase is what your after which could be doubling your amp power(and staying with 2 subs) or doubling the cone area and getting four subs in total. In the end, if you like it, go for it and demo 4 in your car.

For mileage, two (weighs less). For cost of units: Two cost less than four. Cons: Noise: Bass tends to penetrate the car, and go into the neighborhood. Some get annoyed.

Pro's: Bass response and masculine range in music.

Balance: I think one would be adequate. Expect you will have more problems getting an equal amount of power (and penetration) through your tweeters.

well 4 subs is alot of power, and VERY loud. but when ppl say just one is good. that may be true, but u need a very good sub for one to do wut 2 will. i have 2 subs and its a huge difference compared to just one. 2 subs makes ur system so much better than one. so id go with 2 subs. check out kicker subs. they hit really hard.
