Christians don't have any idea how to cope with atheists, and very few do anything other than repeat a very small set of rather obvious lies about us, desperate to deny our existence.

It reflects very poorly on Christianity.

On the flip side, the Christian who manages to avoid that kind of behavior is a very strong person, one who I respect quite a bit. There are a few here like that.

First off, I would like to apologize for any offense given by those who claim to be Christians.

I imagine calling an athiest an agnostic would be like calling a Jew a Christian, a Christian a Muslim, a Baptist a Mormon, or a Catholic a Jehova's Witness. After all we all worship the same God but we all have very different beliefs.

I would also like to add that most people don't actually know the difference between atheism and agnosticism. I'll admit that I'm not 100% on the differences myself.

My understanding is, that atheists believe there is no god nor any "supreme being" of any kind. There is no afterlife. Everything is entirely depndent on the individual nor is there any outside set of rules and morals to guide us.

Agnostics believe that there may indeed be a supreme being or even beings, but they will not commit to any one religion in particular. In practice they behave and appear to have much the same ideology as the atheists.

Again, this is my understanding of the two and it may be wrong. Please correct me if it is.

Also, I would like to add that anyone that goes around insulting others, attacking their beliefs, and causing strife and disention is not following the way of Christ, no matter what they profess. Jesus, never went out looking for a fight.

Hello,

I formally apologize on behalf of any Christian that may have insulted you, as this im sure is not the ultimate intention

I guess we are just trying to work out each others platform of thought, and testing the boundary's of each other beliefs,

Is that not why you are here in the "Religion & Spirituality" section?

I love this section so much and think you too will agree with me, that its very challenging and interesting... well sometimes when you filter out all the silly talk, (-:

But in response to your rather serious question, as a God believing individual i would pose this question back to you, (and i mean no insult here friend)...

Do you think God gets 'insulted' when you reject his very existence, and put your own existence on the flimsy hope that you ultimately originated from nothing more, but the result of mere cosmic accident?

As insulting as you make it... "agnostic"...

Hah... there, I called you it. Do you feel offended?

Do you realise that to be offended is a result of the inability to control one's own emotions... but rather to be controlled by them? To be offended is a weakness. A strong person can let any and all comments slide over them like water off a duck's back at their will... because they honestly don't care what people think.

Achieve that, and I guarantee your life will be much more contented.

Well they think that if you won't say 100% that means that you are an agnostic. They are just wrong, that is all.

I don't get insulted by it. I know they need to think that to help them sleep at night. We really do frighten them.

Remember, to most people, it's not insulting if THEY say it.... then you're just whining, but if you say something similar back to them, saying that mormons and protestants are the same to some protestants, for example, then YOU are insulting them...

Most christians or any believers in religion tend to be on the dumb side of smart, its highly unlikely they would know the difference.

Well, it's no more insulting, than when an Atheist spends hours in the religious category telling Christians there is no God, and how foolish it is to believe in the Bible. I also agree, that Atheists are really Agnostics. It's impossible to experience all that exists in this world, even with our imperfect senses, and believe there is not an intelligent creator.

Well, heaven forbid that a christian be insulting to an atheist here at Y!A... That would be completely unprovoked, wouldn't it?

Do atheists realize how insulting it is for them to call Christians dumb and say that they believe in a fairytale and mock the God that they respect and believe in?
