Imagine a long stem and then instead of leaves at the top the rice grains grow. Search for long grain rice in an image search and you'll get the idea!

Like a grain. It belongs to family gramineae, in other words grass, even bamboo belongs to same family. Rice grain will a cover called husk, which has to be removed before, making it edible.
