I have a cocker spaniel and she does really well in my apartment. I got her at 7 weeks old and she's almost 3.

You really need to do your own research for this question. In order to find the right dog for yourself you need to first question how much exercise will you be able to offer the animal, what type of personality do you have? Are you an outdoors type person? Or are you a couch potato? Do you want a big dog or a little dog? Are you a work at home person, or a person who is out at work, and then out at the bars in the evening (if you are that type....get a cat!!)? There are many websites that will tell you what type of requirements the dog breed that you are interested in requires, all you have to do is roll your sleeves up and start research....I would start with the AKC first off, they will generally tell you the website for the parent club for any particular breed.

If you are happy with your apartment, then do NOT get a dog. A dog will ruin everything! I'm not going to go into any details. Just be happy being dog-less!

Cheers

I agree with the scottish terrier guy. I have one and he's great. Georgie doesn't bark that much and he's super affectionate. They don't need that much room to run arround in either. Just make sure you'll have time for a dog (i.e. bathroom breaks, 20min. walk) If you don't it's best you get a cat since they take care of themselves.

A small dog such as a chihuahua or yorky are good. If you want a little bigger than a beagle isn't to bad. just make sure the dog has enough room or it'll get bored and eat your apt up....
