So many churches have so many painting and picture of what they claim Jesus looks, and yet so many people pray infornt of these idols...technically one is worshiping the idol wheaher or not they apove. And does christianity forbide worshiping other gods or idols. How do you know that Jesus looks the way people picture him to be, i mean there's so many jesus' out there...there's a black jesus, a white one, a pale one...etc. That's why i think islam and Judasim is the only religion that doesn't worship infront of a god, because at the end of the day we don'r know what God looks like.

Yes, it's against scriptures to serve idols and yes have portraits of Jesus, crosses, hexagrams, etc is idolatry. Tradition is more important to some that what "their" scriptures actually teach. Yah (God) is showing you these things for a reason. Do not turn your back or ignore what you are contemplating. If you want to discuss the matter further, send me a message.

Jesus is God, I worship God, I worship Jesus, the only way to the Father is thru the Son. I don't worship the statue or the picture. I just look at them and admire the art work. They aren't idols. You say that "technically one is worshiping the idol whether or not they approve"; just because you say we are worshiping an idol doesn't mean we are. These are not idols. Idols are other gods beside the one and only true God. Christians believe they worship the one and only true God. It's all about their faith. And looking at a statue or a picture or stain-glass window doesn't mean we are worshiping that item. You need to accept that fact!

Of course we don't know exactly what Jesus looks like. We know that He had darkish skin, He was a Jew, an Arab, long hair and beard. The shroud of turin gives us clue of His looks. And if a white family has a white picture and a black family has a black picture of Him, who cares! Jesus is here for all of us, He died for all us. He doesn't care that there are pictures of Him in different skin colors. He isn't offended. He loves us all and is above such pettiness.

If I'm praying in front of a statue, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'm praying TO the statue. There is nothing wrong with having statues at churches and I'm assuming most of the churches you're referring to are Catholic since most Protestant churches don't believe in having "images" or "icons" in their churches. I used to be a Protestant, I know exactly what the argument for not having icons is.

The fact is that churches have statues of saints and others to serve as reminders and to honor those who came before them. When praying before a statue or painting of Jesus, we are simply doing it in order to literally "put a face to the name." We aren't worshipping the image, just the one represented in that image.

To pray to any item is to be Idol worship. To pray in a room filled with statues and pray to GOD is not.
The fact is we do not really know what JESUS looked like and too many want a physical picture or statue to look at. This is sad and it does go against the Word. We are to live by Faith.

Heh. I'm a Christian and I don't have a statue. So it's not Christianity that you have a problem with, it's understanding Christianity that you have a problem with.

And then there is Islam . . . denying the covering that Jesus brought. Still in their sins.

You are correct in that no one knows what God/Christ looks like but an iconic representation on the wall does not constitute worship unless one prays to it.

Idol worshipping means putting the idol in place of God, and worshipping the idol instead of God. I know of no Christian Church that does this

I have always asked that myself, but there are alot of things that I don't understand. My husband is Catholic and I am supposed to covert, but they make it so hard to understand. Why can't we just love Jesus and live out lives honest and that's it. Why make it a whole converting thing? I wish I could understand that.
