My son is almost 3 1/2 years old. i have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old. My 3 year old will pee on the potty. I was putting pull ups on him at bed time, so thats when he would poop. So i took away the pull ups completely, and he has done great for not peeing the bed, but now he poops in his gaunch. I have set up a sticker reward chart, where he gets a day with mommy, swimming IF he fills the chart ( 4 poops) still wont work. I talk to him everyday, and remind him of the chart, showed him the stickers he will get if he poops, and still nothing. I never cach him pooping, because he goes to a quiet place, usualy when i am busy with the baby, or his brother... so i dont know when to catch him. I have made him sit on the pot for 30+ minutes at a time..... but this boy is stubborn. ANY ideas would be welcome. Please no critisism, im discouraged enough as it is.

My mom was here for 2 months, to help with the new baby, and she really discouraged him, does that have anything to do with not pooping on the potty

I hope you get some good answers to your question, as it my exact same problem and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!
My daughter is almost 3 1/2 too.....and pretty good at peeing in the toilet. She is in pull-ups for sleeping, but is dry pretty often....but my daughter also cannot poop in the toilet, and I find it really hard to catch her....she also goes to a quiet place to poop. I also tried getting her to sit longer on the toilet.
So......you are not alone!
Someone help us!!

I think it is pretty average for a 3 1/2 year old (boy especially)to have trouble with pooping still.
I think 2 things helped my son. #1 Make a big deal about going to the store and buying big boy underwear--whatever he picks out. #2 Peer pressure. Day school or play groups where he sees other kids his age using the bathroom successfully on their own.

We had a similar problem. Our solution was to chart his poop times, then when they were approaching sit him on the pot and wait with him until he did his business. One has to be careful to have a consistent diet for this to work, and a new baby makes it difficult to wait. He got it pretty quickly, but we had to be rigid and consistent to make it work. Pooping his pants while you are giving attention to the other children is a pretty sure sign that he wants some focused attention. As he gets the idea the waiting time diminishes.

Show him the ropes, invite other boys over and let them all go, and let him in the bathroom with Daddy. Really is not a good idea to push it beyond that. Scolding, insisting that he try and other ideas (i.e.Toilet Training in a Day) just seem to make the day a sad one and doesn't really set up a precident for good feelings for either of you. I noticed other signs of readiness, such as being dry all night, lining up his matchbox cars or other sorts of organizing, that were pretty accurate. I also bought some of those superman/transformer underwear and he was able to have them to wear when he was able to keep dry! If your son is doing #2 in his underwear than he seems to not be ready to do #2, but dont withdrawl, cause then it will be worst.

don't get too bent out of shape over it. Pooping can be a scary concept for little kids, it 'might' cause discomfort, it is 'ikky' and its creating a huge amount of attention around the home!! Ease the pressure off him a bit and if give him a bit of space to come around when he is ready. i know of several boys still aprehensive about pooping in the potty/toilet when they were well into their 4th year.

well my three yr old wouldn't use the potty at all ..then my two year old took off her nappy and started using it ... when the three yr old saw this she just had to use it too ...
however neither of them would poo THEN one day when we had all given up she (the 3yr old) went to the potty did a poo and brought it to us ..SHE WAS SOOO PROUD !! and we applauded her effort now they both poo in the potty and I'm just waiting to get the nearly two year old on to the potty
Just forget about it for a while don't mention it AT ALL ... if you keep pressuring him it might take longer.
Another idea is to put the potty in the bathroom with you .. my husband and I read when on the toilet and my kids also started copying us .. so when they have to do a poo sometimes they grab a magazine and take it with them .. it's really funny to watch
GOOD LUCK ..I DON'T THINK THE STAR THING IS GOING TO WORK.

First off, pooping has something to do with the child giving. He has to give up something that is on and from his body. Practice giving...and giving...and giving...
