I do rescue so I do this all the time. I put a fertilizer sprayer on the end of the hose filled with bleach and spray it set on high. It does not kill the grass but does kill the parvo and will wash away with another rain or watering.
I take parvo dogs from several other rescues and momma dogs and so far so good I have never had one catch parvo at my house. I have a stray momma that I can't get near in the back yard now. Im not worried about the babies getting parvo Im worried about her letting me near them and she is only about 8 months and hoping she will know what to do and nurse them.

"When would it be safe to bring another puppy on my property "
Parvo virus can live in the soil for up to three years.
My advice is and always will be, get an adult dog that has had all of it's shots and is immune to parvo.
Note about Parvo:
Frequently people will ask to come and see the puppy's, The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!! The reason for this is because this type of visit is the second most common source of Parvo contamination. When looking at puppy's NEVER EVER look at two different litters with the same shoes/cloths on.
Believe it or not, the most common source of Parvo contamination is the floor at the Vet's office (people keep taking all their sick dogs there) At the vet's office your puppy should go from your arms to the exam table without EVER touching the floor.

I had a puppy dying of parvo a few years back, We took it into the shelter to get put down because she wouldn't eat or drink anything and would not move at all. I had to get preventative shots for my chiuhaha and rotweiler. I don't recall if the shelter gave me these to administer or a vet. But I had to do it to both to prevent parvo from infecting them.

ive been told that the parvovirus can survive outside from anewhere from 5mounths to a year.
"If you've recently lost a dog to Parvovirus, veterinarians recommend that you wait six months to a year before putting a new puppy or non-vaccinated dog in to an infected environment (even if you have disinfected it). To immediately bring an animal into a situation where one has recently died of the Parvovirus is a virtual death sentence for the new puppy. Common sense and regular visits to the veterinarian can save your dog's life." (www.rottweilerwelfare.co.uk/Parvovirus.htm)

what is in your yard? i would bleach it, just in case, it would easier to lose grass than to lose another dog to parvo! you can never be too cautious when it comes to something as nasty as parvo.
i would also bleach and dispose of any dog toys your first puppy had and get the new puppy new things.

agrimed.com sells parvasol. you can get a 50 cent spray bottle from the dollar store and fill it with parvosol and spray your furniture and carpets. pls dont get an unvaccinated puppy for a while to be safe. get one thats ATLEAST 9 or 10months old if you must. i went out and rescued a fully vaccinated 2yr old after my dog had parvo/distemper

I would wait at least 6 months as suggested. Adding chemicals or bleach to your yard would do great harm to any other critters around and the environment.,

I would get parvo shots for the dog before I brought him home, and while you have him at the vet getting his shots explained your situation to him.

I would recommend asking your vet about this. He/she will have a much better idea of what can and should be done to provide a safe atmosphere for a new puppy.

They say you can use bleach with water to kill any viruses.
Also the sun is a great source of decontamination.
Hope everything goes ok and sorry about your loss.
