Labs are high energy dogs. A very good large breed formula is the best to feed him. As to which one is going to depend on how much you are willing to spend.
I have 2-90 pound Goldens here with me and I feed them Nutro large breed adult. Some will say it's not the best but my guy's are doing very well with it and they are strong and healthy. Their coats are beautiful and teeth are in top shape. So you need to decide this for your self.

Dry food is absolutely fine. James Welbeloved is an excellent food and gentle on the stomach. Nicer poos to bag!
Pero make an excellent organic dry dog food, which I feed my little Lab on. Always make sure that you have plenty of fresh water available. It is a really good idea to give your dog fresh vegetables once a day - carrots are excellent. I don't know if your dog is entire, but Labradors are very greedy animals and you may need to keep an eye on his/her weight, if neutered.

i have a 7 year old golden retriever and a 3 year old yellow lab. i feed them dry food twice a day. i feed them Canidae. Its a high quality food. unlike pedagree which is not all that good for dogs. Also lots of labs and other retrievers are prone to wheat allergys and most foods and treats contain wheat. however Canidae does not. Nutro,Wellness,Solid Gold are also good foods. if you are going to switch his food do it slowly by mixing the two foods so you do not upset his stomach.

Dry food is fine. Continue with what his previous owners were feeding him to avoid an upset stomach. Then you can gradually change over if you desire. There are lots of good foods out there, you may want to speak to vet for recommendations.

I feed my dogs Kirkland brand from Costco. It's made by Blue Diamond who also makes all natural/organic dog foods. Other than that, if possible stay away from cheap brands. They are made up mostly of filler(corn meal ,lamb meal ). You want the first 2 or 3 ingredients to be actual meats, grains, etc. Definately go to your local Petsmart and they will give quite a few options to choose from.

Ol' Roy seems to work just fine and it's inexpensive. All of my dogs, including my lab, loved it!!! They have a wide variety of dry food that I'm sure you will be able to find something your dog will like.
