Did we announce over the radio "We will be finishing the war by 1945, whether we win or not"? I don't think we did.
And even if we did, it wouldn't have been that bad, because Hitler wouldn't have know. In this day and age, any "insurgent" in Iraq can turn on CNN from a satellite and see that we are leaving Iraq in March 31 of next year.
Then they can just tell their buddies "lay low until next April 1". That's good, it will give them a whole year to think of how to revenge against America.
Good thing we didn't tell Hitler "Hey, we are leaving Germany by 1945, win or lose". I am sure that wouldn't have done any damage at ALL, right?
NOW do you Libs see what the problem is?

I'm loving your thought process here, man! War doesn't usually have a timetable...and you CERTAINLY don't tell the enemy what it is. If the game ain't over till the fat lady sings, why should we schedule the fat lady at the enemy's earliest convenience? Some great historian, who will remain nameless, but timeless, said "He who refuses to learn from history is destined to repeat it." Smart guy, but I don't know...we won WW11... but the Libs didn't learn much, and I don't know if they'll get to repeat it or not!

Times are changing so is science & weapons & instrument & communications etc. Most of the things are becoming transperant these days and hence the time table. See America is no longer the strongest country, maybe weapon wise & money they are stronger but there are host of other angles which have to be looked upon. Gone are the days when atomic weapons were available only with the US today many countries posess them and god knows what will happen if any of these immature countries use them ?. Ofcourse countries like US , Russia, China & India are the most Sane countries and they would not indulge whereas smaller countries who have the atomic arms are not totally reliable and the crises can strike at any point of time. Therefore It si absolutely necessary that the United Nations is reorganised and these smaller countries given certain responsible positions so that they would behave more properly.

You make a sound point !! I often laugh when people want to know the military's "PLANS"... OR are shocked when they learn that we have plans for warfare with virtually EVERY nation on the globe !!
Sadly, THIS war is being conducted like Vietnam... by the politicians. Either let the Generals go forward and kick the appropriate BUTT without interference... or don't even START.
We learned after WWII and Korea and Vietnam to make PLANS... and keep them quiet. Sadly our former SECDEF didn't want to hear ALL the plans or logistics.
Oh, and there WERE folks within the USA during WWII who would read the papers and listen to the radio and forward that info onto Hitler...

Yes time tables were set in world war two. The Normandy invasion was set in many time tables one of which was Gen Montgomary taking Conn by the second day. And a time table was set to have 1,000,000 men ashore in three days. Many of the time tables were met some were not and strategy was change redeployment of troops was used thoughout WWII. REMEMBER THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE troops were pulled out of one battle to stop a surge in the north. They didn't just come ashore a wait for the enemy to surrender they reacted to the situation and change the strategy to WIN THE WAR.

You are right. Add to it that there weren't a bunch of armchair quarterbacks sitting at home whining about the use of force to win a war. Tying the military's hands is stupid! We did that in Vietnam and got a lot of kids on both sides killed.
Let the generals fight to win and we could be home before then.

Just like the great socialist state of France, the left wants to cut and run and hide in a closet.
If we had a Government and media like we have now during WW2, we would all be speaking German right now.

No, but the civilian leadership gave them a very clear mission. Unless 'when the job's done' and 'don't cut and run' strike you as military grand strategy.
Dumb civilian tradesmen using the wrong tool.

No & it was the last war we won! Oh, I forgot we haven't gone to war since WWII. We've done police actions. Police actions by their deffinitions says your hands are tied & you aren't allowed to win.
