Long haired cats are worse than short haired, but there is no scientific proof of any difference between males & female, but have found a difference between neutered and non neutered cats, neutered being less prone to causing allergies.
HOWEVER
They have just bred the first hypoallergenic cat in America that does not affect people with the majority of cat allergies.
Those that disagree with genetic engineering aren't happy about that at all.

it's really the cat dander, each cat gives off a different amount, so some cats wont bother you as much as others..I have cat allergies, and a number of other allergies, And i've lived with all types of cats..there is a special shampoo you can wash them with that helps with the allergies, there is also a shot you can take..

If you are allergic to cats you are allergic. It is more the pet dander anyway than the hair that causes the reaction but hair plays a part to so it doesn't matter how long it is, it is still cat hair!

If you are allergic to cats, you are allergic to CATS. The dander from the animal will make you sneeze, could make a high fever, and generally make you feel badly all over. You could get asthma, and that can be life threatening. I have asthma and cannot have pet dander around me at all.

I prefer hair that will is shoulder length or longer, As well as since that men who like women are more often then not straight, they like long hair because it looks more feminine, as most males have short hair.

It's usually the DANDER that gets you, no matter how long your cats' hair is.
