One of my cats actually like to play a modified version of fetch. This works well if you have a long hallway or open floor plan. I use her favorite toy (a mouse) and throw it to the far side of the apartment. Then I actually run with her to get it. We bat it back and forth a bit and I eventually lob it back to the starting point. Again, we run to get it. She loves this.
She also likes playing catch. She sits on a table and I toss her mouse to her. She uses her front paws to grab it and then bats it onto the floor. I pick it up and we do this over and over.
The best part about both of these is that they're interactive. I work long hours so I feel like it's important to give the cats attention when I am home. Both of these activities are lots of fun.

Lots of toys, but to save money get a pair of socks and make them into a ball throw down hallway, the cat should chase and may bring back. Elastic bands are another suggestion, ping them towards a wall and the cat should chase, I have an indoor cat and she loves these. Cardboard box to hide in and some cheap tunnels stitched into one.

Get tons of toys for your cat to play with. Also get a scratching Post (one that goes to the ceiling). I wear my little guys out by playing with a laser pointer. They chase that thing all around the house. They sometimes get to the point where they are panting because they played so much. My friend has a Kitty Condo that she hangs by the windows. Her cats love it.

My cat likes playing with string or shoelaces. Try dragging it along the floor and around corners. Your cat may see it as prey and will chase after it. Also, try some toy balls or this product called a "cat dancer". They can be found at places like PetSmart or Petco.

So many good suggestions already!!
I'll give you a tip, and this is what I did with my kitten.
I play hide and seek with her. I will hide and she will find me. When I hide I`ll call to her to find me. In the beginning she didn't know after a few times she learns. Fast learner too.!!!
After she find me she will run and hide. and I'll find her.
All the places I hid she will follow too.
Sometimes she will hide in a small bag with head inside and her bottom out side. I'll pretend I didn't see her and she will meow to me.
Another good one is follow the leader...
I'll walk from room to room normal walking and she follows.
After that I'll walk faster and faster until she is tired.
You will have a lot of fun with her.!!!
If you have time, you can do this..
I train my kitten to go on a leash and take her for a walk in the park. She walks with me.
Sometimes she loves going near the flowers and chasing butterfly or birds or insects.
Sometimes I let her climb up the tree, of course within my reach and take her down. Then let her go again and again until she had enough.
I have lots of fun with her and I do hope you will with your kitty cat.!!!
Good Luck!!!

Make sure the kitty has lots of toys to keep her occupied. Toys with catnip usually stimulate lots of interest and activity. One of the best "toys" I have found to provide lots of exercise for our cats is a flashlight. All of our cats love to chase it around the house - we tire before they do! (You can also purchase one of those laser lights for pets, but a flashlight works just fine for us.)
