Everytime I start my laptop powerpoint automatically starts up and loads a slide that says something dumb about company stuff like not using the internet radio, not using certain websites, not using email for personal use etc. It only loads one slide and after about 5 seconds it closes. How the hell do I edit my startup so this does not happen? It slows my startup a lot. Thanks.

First place to check is

START Button -> All Programs -> Startup group. Any junk in there? Get rid of it.

Second place to check, and only do this with a knowledgeable computer person at your side is:

START Button -> Run... -> regedit -> OK

Then in REGEDIT, follow down the tree to

My Computer\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Run

There you will find a list of other programs that run when your computer starts. Most likely your program will be in the first place to check (the "Startup" folder) given the way things tend to happen, but I provide this second option for the sake of completeness. DO NOT NOSE AROUND in regedit unless you know what you're doing, and DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES unless you are certain of the outcome. The consequence can be a dead computer that has to be reimaged.

Also, if the annoying PowerPoint is part of your "corporate load", expect it to return with irritating regularity every time the image is updated.

click start, go to RUN, type in MSCONFIG

when the window pops up make sure "selective startup" is checked and all the sub boxes are checked

then click on the startup tab and scroll down the list looking for anything Microsoft office related (i.e. powerpoint app) and uncheck the box

click apply

you will have to restart your computer

hopefully you'll be able to find the right startup item the first try, if it still happens when you restart double check the the list and unselect anything you missed.
