I just saw a debate on babycenter regarding dvd players in cars and wanted your opinion.

Do you agree with them? Love them? Hate them? Why?

My husband has a portable one that my parents gave him before he went to Iraq and last weekend we put it in the car for our (2 year old) son, for the first time. It's not mounted in the vehicle so it's, obviously, not as safe as other types that are but we did mount it on the back of the front seat. We went on a camping trip and it was a 3 hour drive (one way). He sat there, content, watching the entire movie. It was the most peaceful, long distance drive we have ever taken with him. I can't say I would use it for trips shorter than 2 1/2- 3 hours but in this case, it made it so much easier for everyone. He almost never watches TV at home so it was somewhat of a treat for him.

I agree with you, to only use them for longer trips, and they are especially useful when travelling with only one parent.

We don't have one so I don't really have an opinion one way or the other. We bring along books and toys in the car for our 3 year old when we're driving for more then 1 or 1 1/2 hours and try to time it so she's napping most of the time.

We offered a variety of for our 2 one million/2 300 and sixty 5 days old son purely after Christmas. we live a 2 hourcontinual from each and each set of grandparents and the journeys to pass to had replace right into a nightmare. He the two worked himself up lots he grew to become into ill out of frustration and tedium, or he fell asleep and his (very comfortable) ordinary grew to become into thrown out thoroughly. The DVD participant has been a godsend. As he does not watch television at domicile and does not understand the theory of putting the DVD in it skill he does not ask for it in any respect jointly as we are at domicile, so some distance as he's worried this is purely in the vehicle!

I have one in my truck, and personally, I love it. The screen is mounted on the ceiling so that it can be adjusted for my 1 year old daughter to see it. I think it is a life saver, especially on long trips, which we make many times a year to WV.

I like them. My aunt has them in her Van. She does foster care. I would say do what she does. Only use them for long days in the car. That way it is a treat for them. They are awesome for trips, we use them all the time. We drive from tennessee to florida. and insted of 8 hours, it is 3 movies.

Go for it I say, whatever makes the journey more enjoyable for the child and less stressfull/distracting for the parent I say can only be a good thing. We have one and the same as you only use for long journeys for 3 year old, she loves it.
