we are a printing company and as such use several types of chemicals in the manufacturing process, ie. isopropanol, white spirit and chemicals containing benzene. I would like to ensure that the air on the shopfloor is of a good enough quality and that our ventilation systems are working efficiently

There are many on the market you want one that measures VOC's (volatile organic compounds) or Hydrocarbons . This is a link to one I have used in the past that is very good, probably the best next to a full on monitoring system. http://www.photovac.com/LP/Photovac_MicroFid.htm

But you can get some that are less expensive an just alert you to dangerous levels and not the PPM (Parts Per Million) levels.

You can also give these guys a call and they can help you out:

You need an indoor air quality consultant - not an a/c guy.
We have specialized meters that can screen your facility and advise you if you have excessive levels and what to do to reduce the exposure. Look in yellow pages or I-net for environmental consultants - indoor air quality.

I hope you will do it soon - those chemicals have rapid absortion by skin and lungs and are known cancer causers.
