Not only on the desktop, but anywhere in your system, device names such as COM1, CON or LPT1 are reserved words, and they can't be used as folder or file names. thats why you can use something like copy c:\myfile.txt com1 to send a file directly to the COM port.

Don't about all those answers .MY friend I'am also using WIN XP Pro. and i'am able to name folders on my desktop with that NAME. :) TRY Re-startin.. ur pc & then Name d folder u want (con).!

You can use (con) but you can't use con.

It's a reserved Windows word - used for internal functions or calls.

CON is a system reserved word.

It's a keyword used by winXP so you cannot use it.
