We are both in our late 40,s but very young at heart. Is it expensive to eat and drink there? Is it safe, I have always been told that Turkish men are a real pain and can be very problematic with regards to women is this true?, any advice and tips on this resort would be welcome

Alanya is a lovely town (was much better a decade ago). It can be very crowded in summer, and hot. There will be tourists from all over the world, mostly Germans and Russians. If you stay away from deserted side roads, especially at night you will be quiet safe. But after it's the same all over the world, isn't it. There are lots of options to choose when it comes to eating. Some 'touristic' restaurants may be as expensive as Europe, but most are much cheaper. Try some doner kebab while you are there. Salads are fresh and good. Try chicken shish kebab too. Stay away from lahmacun, especially if the place does not look very hygenic. You can never be sure of the quality of the ground beef in lahmacun. There are lots of policemen patrolling the mainly touristic areas and also 'zabita' (city council officials) who check restaurants and other businesses for licence and quality. They also care for any complaints from tourists. As for womenizers, you should be able to distinguish who is a gentlemanlike playboy and who is hungry just for sex. A clever woman always knows how to say no and get away.
I hope you enjoy your holiday. I have been there a couple of times. Do visit 'Damlatas' cavern and the Seldjuk castle up on the hill, by the sea. Lots of other historical sites and museums to visit.

Alanya is cheaper for restaurants than some of the resorts more popular with British tourists. There is a large German population and German tourists.Alanya does not have the building regs. that places like Bodrum area have where there is height limits and all the houses are painted white so it is not so picturesque. It is wise to be careful in Turkey,in the last few years women have been attacked in quiet places at night which didn't happen a few years ago.Young Turkish men do flirt with older women but this is more to do with some of the women who visit and what they visit for!.usually if you are a couple they pose no problem.I don't want to put you off in any way just to try and give true picture.I prefer the Bodrum peninsular but my wife loves Alanya.I started visiting Turkey 23 years ago and decided I would live here.I retired 4years ago and along with 34000 other Brits. moved here so it cant be bad can it.

i have never been to alanya but i have been to marmaris and it was lovely! , and for the turkish men they are lovely and very polite! they treat you very well , and like someone else mentioned they will leave you alone once asked! and i am a young girl who is blonde and its not true that there all over blonde girls either! yes they pay women alot of attention but that will be the same anywhere! but like i said they will back off once told!, as for the drinks they are cheap! for beer its like 1 lira 50 which is like no more than a pound! and a 3 course meal works out about £5 in english, a fried breaky is 99p in english money! its dead cheap there! and supermarkets are very cheap!, one bit of advice DO NOT DRINK THE WATER FROM HOTEL ETC only drink bottled water like everyone else. but as for the people in turkey they are so polite and will do anything for you, you actually become friends with them very quick and look out for you etc! anything else you want to know just ask

I went long time ago, to both Alanya and Antalya. Turkey is very special country, people are very friendly. Have your heart and mind open and you will find a lot of amazing places. Also, don't miss seeing Pamukkale/ Pamukale, there is no place like it.

Alanya was favored as a seaside resort by the Seljuk Turks 800 years ago, just as it is for the thousands of European visitors who pack its hundreds of hotels and villas today.
For the Seljuks, the attraction was the mild climate, the good harbor, and its relative closeness to Konya, the Seljuk capital.
For today's visitors it's the l-o-n-g stretches of sand beach, the warm waters of Turkey's Mediterranean coast, and the deep history of the town.
Alanya has grown incredibly during the past decade, and now boasts a population of more than 250,000, which must double during the summer tourist season.
Many visitors fly into Antalya airport on inexpensive package vacations, then bus to Alanya. Lots of new hotels have been built to cater to the package trade.
While you're here, visit the vast Seljuk fortress which dominates the town from its promontory; the tall, octagonal Seljuk Kizilkule (Red Tower); and the Tersane (shipyard).
The dank atmosphere of Damlatas Cave, said to be beneficial to asthma sufferers, but with hordes of tourists exhaling hot carbon dio into the humid, already-stuffy atmosphere, I have my doubts....

My Mum (age 54) went a couple of years ago with a female friend & they both really enjoyed it,the Turkish men are very polite with their flirting/chat-ups and will back off when told to without any problems,so don't worry about that.Just be firm but nice about it. It wasn't too expensive and they felt safe in the main tourist areas.
