the state owns and controls the liquor stores. it sucks, i know!
some state stores are open on sunday which is relatively new, but you still can't even buy a case of beer on a sunday!
it's a pleasure to go to nj where it's one stop shopping.
there are some stores in upstate pa where you can buy a six pack at a convenience store, and they are trying to pass a law that you will able to do this in other parts of the state.
fyi- pa is not the only state that controls the liquor- virginia and utah do too.

The state has the only licenses to sell liquor by the bottle (law on the books since the end of prohibition). It was originally designed to control the amount of alcohol available to people. Since then it has become a large source of income for the state (although anyone near a border will cross to buy alcohol as it is usually cheaper). There have been studies showing what impact privatizing the practice would bring, and it would have an negative impact on the states budget. So don't go looking to own a liquor store in this state.

Crazy isn't it. I couldn't believe it when I moved here. In Ohio you can buy wine & beer in a grocery store!! All I can figure is that it is big money for the state. Although you wouldn't think so if you look at all the other taxes we pay!

Only the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board-run Wine & Spirits Shoppes may sell hard liquor or wine (although wineries may sell their own products to consumers). Beer may only be purchased from beer distributors (by the case or keg; 1/4 or 1/2 kegs to consumers) or in bars/restaurants (by the six-pack).

just a law they made to try and keep people from buying so much alcohol. it's like buying beer there, i think you can't take out more than a 12 pack in each trip to the car.

Stop drinking. It is bad for you. Don't waste your money, you better save it for when you REALLY need it.
