Polka dots are very vintage. I would suggest choosing complimetary colors, yellow and purple are just that! Purple bridesmaids dresses with yellow flowers or vice-versa would look great. I've seen polka dot wedding cakes and they look really cute! Just use polka dots and the colors yellow and purple as your theme. Going overboard with any theme does make things complicated. You could use yellow or purple table clothes and glue big polka dots in the other color to the clothes. Give polka dot bookmarks with your names and the date of your wedding as favors. Bright colors are great for summer weddings!

I do like polka dots. I would, however, suggest you pair a light color with a bold color, instead of two bolds; that'd be just too busy. How about cream and purple instead of yellow and purple?
Wilton has very nice DIY invitation kits that have polka dots. They aren't colored, though. The dots are shiny, embossed dots, but they still look very nice. They're cheap, too...about $15 for a kit of 50 invitations, reply cards (or reception cards) and the envelopes. I've also seen cakes with polka dots. Some wedding veils have pearls sewn into them; that looks like polka dots too. But stay away from the ones with rhinestones...the rhinestones show up as black dots when the lights from the camera's flash hit them.
I would also suggest staying away from a theme. Many brides waste time and money on coordinating a theme, when at the end of it all it really is just another wedding. Unless your theme is over the top (which is really quite obnoxious), then none of the guests are going to pick up that there is a theme. Just work in the polka dots where ever you can and don't worry about trying to tie it all to a "theme."
Best of luck!

Hmmm, i would go with orange/red/yellow rather than purple and yellow.
Theme: Fire
That way the colors are all in the same scheme and it will look a bit more confined rather than all over the place. You could also take polka dot ribbon and tie it around the centerpeices or have the ribbon in your bouquet. If you want to include polka dots I'd go with a solid colored tablecloth with polka dot accents (dishes, ribbon etc.) You could even alternate so that you have different solid colored tablecloths and lots of polka dots to pick up the color.
Hope this helped!

How about you have the bridesmaids in cream color dresses with purple sashes that have yellow polka dots on them. Then you could have the men wear a tux with the purple yellow polka dotted material in their lapel (scarves). Or even the vests can be that color. You could get yellow and purple flowers. The napkins at the reception could be purple with yellow polka dots, and the bows on the backs of the chairs & the bouquets. can have ribbons with these colors.

Polka dots are great....and amazingly coming back into style! I think it's a very unique and whimzy idea! I wouldn't go over board and put polka dots everywhere.....I saw some really cute bridesmaids dresses with polka dot sashes....and I bought my daughter a really cute chiffon polka dot easter dress at Dillards...this would make an adoreable flower girl dress for this theme. For the reciption, use solid color pates...to imulate polka dots in different colors....and instead of rice or bird seed, give your guests balloons in the colors you choose to let go when you leave...again imulating polka dots! As far as the flowers go, try simple flowers in mainly solid colors...like daisies or carnations in bright colors and white roses! And for kicks...the grooms cake...a yellow polka dot bikini! Congratulations...and most of all ..have fun with this!!!

I think polka dots is a cute idea. I think yellow and purple (well SOME shades.. such as a light butter yellow and a rich deep purple) is a cute idea. I DONT however think they go together.. its just a little too much.
Polkadots can looks really preppy and fun.. some examples of how to coordinate them would be getting polkadot ribbon and tying the napkins up with them or tying bows around the centerpieces. I could imagine a "tiffany blue" and white as your colors with polkadots.
Have fun though- its your day! do what you want!

I love polka dots, too! Just an idea, usually when you buy fabrics you can also get the reverse of something - eg. purple with white polka dots, then white with purple polka dots. That kind of thing could be cool to decorate with.
And I love the idea of bright colors - go with jewel tones!

I like the polka dot idea.
Polka dots look best when on a tailored background. So I would go with clean lines for all the accents, with minimal polka dots added in. You want to showcase them, not be blinded by them.
For a theme, something as simple as using your initials in a font you like would be perfect. Dont choose an overly involved theme. Keep it simple so you can show off the polka dots tastefully.
Have fun!

You could do one solid color and hten have the other one with polka dots. Because two colors with polka dots does seem a little busy.
For some reason, the only theme that came to my mind was doo wop, poodle skirts, when I think of polka dots.
it seems fun though! :) good luck!

Polka Dots are great. Maybe like a like a soft yellow and a pretty blue color.
You can incorporate the polka dots in many different ways.

Guest Books/Table Numbers/Invitations/Favors/Ribbons on bouquets...
Don't over do it because then it will look too like childish in my opinion. Good luck!
