Sorry, it's the opening lines of Blake's "Jerusalem" - I've just been listening to Billy Bragg's dulcet tones warbling it, and I've always thought it's a beautiful song/poem/hymn.

No. Nice poem/hymn and all, but I actually heard folks singing it when last in London and thought, "what the height of cultural arrogance".

England is the most amazing island in human history but to think of it as a holy land is over the top.

Did you know Silly Fud that the film "Chariots of Fire" got it's title from a line in this poem?

They could feasibly have done. Jesus' possible uncle, Joseph of Arimathea, was supposed to have travelled to England and taken Jesus with him. I guess we'll never know.
