I've just moved into a flat where there has never been a phone line. BT charge £125 to install a new line, do I have any choice?

If you have cable installed then you can have your phone line through that, if not you're stuck with BT

No you do have a choice... Check you yellow pages for suppliers in your area. BT can someytimes offer a spread connection service where you pay the installation charge over 5 instalments - 1 when you order and the remaining 4 over your next 4 quarterly bills.

BT are have been the primary installers of the line although this may have changed due to deregulation. I think currently your only choice is BT or Cable.
If you rent consider asking your landlord to go splits as his next tenant will benefit from it too

Try Talk Talk through carephone warehouse the do my landline, and toatlly bypass BT

Virgin has quite an aggressive marketing department, if their cable service was an option in your area you would have received leaflets etc by now

You could get cable, some companies can give you a phone and internet deal e.g. Virgin Media
