I don not know the term shallow fry.I do know if it is a link sausage --cook on a low heat until crispy brown.Pan sausage the same and drain well.Hope this helps...

I fry link sausage in water, halfway up the links, for about ten minutes. Then dump the water, add just enough oil to coat bottom of the pan and fry until browned. Patties are cooked on each side for about 4 to 5 minutes. No water, just a little oil.

Until they are evenly brown all over. DO NOT PRICK THEM!!! This will release the natural juices and make them dry. If you are unsure if they are cooked in the middle, add a little water to the pan and cover with a lid for about a minute.
