I have 4 dogs. 3 of which are labs. 2 chocolate 1 black.
2 of them are too smart for there own good.
My oldest is 7 and he will dump his water out of his bowl and bring me the bowl when I am drinking coca-cola.He loves coke. He can go get any toy he has by name.If you say ..go get your pig , he will go get it...go bet your ball...he will get it...etc He can open the screen door and go outside by himself.
my 6 year old is an escape artiest...She will unlock the fence gate and leave if we don't put a lock on it. She will let the other dogs back in the house by hitting it and swinging it wide open so they can come in.
All 3 will go find what ever I hide for them.
my little ankle bitter isn't anything special in the brain department but she loves me and that's enough....She is rat terrier/Chihuahua mix.

That isn't cleverness it's being a dog! If you want a really clever dog try a Border Collie! They are so clever they usually know what you want before you do!

I was about to answer not very. But then I read the rest - Merlyn has smelled out Elk, Deer, and whatever carcasses at about 1 to 3 km away (if the wind is blowing right). Much to my chagrin he has brought a few finds back...ugh...

2 dogs. Doberman and beagle. I'd give each a rawhide. The dobe would finish hers and steals the one from the beagle. One day the beagle hid her treat in a shoe and waited for the dobe to come steal it. When the dobe was convinced it was gone, the beagle went back to the shoe and enjoyed it.
Advanced problem solving.

I think my dog is brainless; but he CAN hear the shower going in the morning; and as I'm up first every day, he figures it's my husband in the shower, and gets all wagging tails and excited cos he knows my hubby is the only one who will take him for a walk!! so he can't be too thick!

My dalmatian called Muppet really impressed me yesterday. We have never had mice in our house before but he sniffed one out that was hiding in the corner of our lounge underneath our hi-fi stand. We pulled the stand out & the mouse scurried off but within a couple of minutes Muppet had tracked the mouse down again & disposed off it for us. We had one very smug spotty dog for the rest of the day!
