Nick C, you haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about. Anton Lavey never worshipped Satan. Do your research.
There are several different religions/philosophies that could be called Satanism. Modern Satanists and Laveyan Satanists do not actually believe in Satan as a deity but as a symbol.
Theistic Satanists do believe he exists. I don't know much about theistic Satanism so I'm not going to pronounce on it.
I suppose many proponents of both of these types of Satanism would describe themselves as "real" Satanists. Personally I don't care. I follow a particular philosophy called Satanism, it could call itself Cheese Sandwichism for all I care - it works for me. I don't claim I'm a "real" Satanist.

A real Satanist is one who seeks to be true to himself by not conforming to others ideas of who or what they should be or believe in.
There are many forms of Satanism not all Satanist believe in Satan as an actual entity and even less Satanists believe in the Satan portrayed in the bible. Satan means enemy. Satan is the one who is blamed for ALL the 'evil' in the world. Before Judaism was even formed there were entities who were 'Satans' or Devils. I'm a polytheist and don't dislike 'light' Gods as such, just the false ones that claim they are the creators. If there were a creator God he/she would be the one to blame for ALL 'evil'. So, sure, maybe Satan is the creator Spirit...

Much "Satanic" lore does not originate from actual Satanists, but from Christians. Best-known would be the medieval folklore and theology surrounding demons and witches. A more recent example is the so-called Satanic ritual abuse scare of the 1980s— beginning with the memoir Michelle Remembers--which depicts Satanism as a vast conspiracy of elites with a predilection for child-molesting and human sacrifice. This genre regularly describes Satan as actually appearing in person in order to receive worship. It must be noted that this is not adhering to the teachings of the Church of Satan, which is strictly against child abuse, rape or any other fully harmful sadistic act, especially to children. Consensual S&M between adults is advocated on the grounds that it is a form of self-gratification.

I suppose the best answer would be that Satanists are anti-Christians or for that matter anti-religion in general. But personally I believe that Satanist's assign much more power to Satan then he actually has.

I'm sorry but here is the truth. The truth always hurt. A satanist is someone who do not accept Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world. By saying this I am not judging anybody or I mean no offence. The reason there is so many other religions (almost the same as there is people on earth) is a satanic plot to keep people away from Christ
The truth always set you free.

Well, I´ve met lots of them, but they´re of exclusively one kind: Normally young guys who get bored with their lame lifestyles and wanna feel different, therefore they enroll with the one philosophy they think is the most rebelious - Satanism. Which by the way is only a "religion" set up as absolutely opposed to christianity, yet, it took it´s founders to base upon christianity to then reverse all it´s principles into their new religion - that caused their religion to be as christianity, a dogmatic religion, with the sole difference of having opposed principles. In my oppinion, satanists are all fragile and lame beings, just as I think of christians, no difference at all.
