I have a beautiful blue pit bull. She is muscular and weighs 87 lbs. She is very sweet and loving towards people but very wary when it comes to other dogs. She'll stop walking when she sees another dog at the park. She'll stare at the dog until the other dog goes away. Most dogs get bad vibes from her - they growl and bark. I never let her lose at the dog park for fear that she will attack another dog.

Teach her the command "WATCH ME". AT HOME with treat in hand say watch me- if nessary make a noise so she looks at you (perferadly your nose) -feed treat WITH good dog praise! Progress to with treat in pocket and evetualy to an ocasional good dog with no food in site.
THe goal is to be able to tell her watch me as soon as a dog is around so she never gets into staring contests.

Watch the dog whisperer - Cesar Milan ( LOVE HIM!!) He has worked with pits before and helps to calm agressive and intimidating dogs. Correct the action. Then when the dog is good, reward. He always says be calm assertive and make sure the dog knows you are the pack leader.

watch the dog whisperer on tv. He is awesome at teaching you how to deal with stuff like that. Best advice I can give is when she stops to stare make a little pssst noise and jerk her leash alittle to distract her. Keep doing this and eventually she will stop.

It is hard to get them out of this habbit but not impossible, the main thing is to VERY sturn tell them no, then you need to get there attention on something else, One of mine still will do this on occasion. It is just them being protective over you so if you do not correct it now then you will contiue to have this issue. Good luck and just remember to get there attention else where...
