The raw food answer is a good one. Raw food diets tend to be 3x as expensive though.

Recently, I have been reading that cooked dog food looses many of the enzymes and good bacteria that aid in a dogs digestion. This makes the dog give up more of its own enzymes for digestion and "tooting" as my 4 1/2 year old daughter would say, is a byproduct.

For many years I have been feeding a high quality dry food, but had been adding a tablespoon or 2 of plain yougurt to the food and that seems to help with with the gas. Plus the dogs love it. I never really understood why it worked, but the fact that yougurt is live cultures, or good bacteria, it all seems to make sense. Give it a try.

Best of luck. Great breed by the way.

Dogs that are fed a raw meat and bone diet usually don't have as much gas as dogs on a processed commercial food- they are better able to digest the raw meat than the grains and additives. However, everyone gets gas and dogs really don't know when they are being inappropriate.

Change his food but do it slowly over a week or you'll have a worse problem. Find a food with no corn, no wheat. Terriers do very well on lamb & rice formulas but you need to get a sample to see if he likes it first.

I agree with the last two answers, but do it slowly or you might find the sudden change gives your Cairn another problem! Belly ache.

try a different diet or try putting the food at a higher level so he doesn't have to bend down to eat this way he doesn't ingest so much air
