I belong to a weekly christian fellowship (in someone's home) in which we talk about day-to-day issues. I am a single lady & we pray & study the bible. The thing is, I have been through quite a lot of problems lately (burglary, household problems and now I've discovered I've got mice and the list goes on). The group all know my problems, as well as me knowing all theirs, but I never feel supported by them & there is never any follow up on their part to see how I am or how I'm managing alone with all these happenings. Whenever I hear of any of the other members going through issues, I'm always asking how they're doing and just general follow up with them & support. Are my expectations of these people too high? I feel I give out so much to them but never get anything back. I have made my feelings aware within the group (how I feel unsupported), but there is still no improvement.

And they still go on about loads of their own problems.

One of the greatest needs in the church today is that of the single woman. We often think of single mothers but not of the woman who lives alone and needs assistance. Unfortunately we do not fit into the widow and orphan catagory so many churches just don't think about the fact we need encouragement and support as well.

Yes they should support each other, especially since you have voiced your request.

Check out www.lds.org

Try to find the closest branch to your place and check it out.

Each member has two ladies and men in charge of them, to whom they could go for any help during the week - sort of like guardian angels - for any spiritual or day to day problems like how you stated.

There is absolutely no obligations for you to join the community - just to find out about the system and how it works.

All the best.

People are always more worried about their own problems unless they are a good friend. That is human nature. If you aren't getting anything from the group, don't go anymore.

And get a cat. The mouse problem will go away. Good luck.

Christians should encourage one another and be accountable to one another as well.

I pray that this is not just a get-together (a social of sorts)....fellowship is all about a time of prayer, bible reading, and encouragement.

Whoever leads this thing (if there is somewhat of a leader)....you should privately make this known to them....that it is a concern for you.

And I will most certainly pray for you as well.

well if they are paying any attention to the bible readings or the prayers it would follow that support would be part of their agenda.....but sorry to sound cynical but I would question the motives of some who attend these type of meeting....notice I say some am not including yourself in that. I do know one who leads such groups and his motives are suspect.

It is human to expect support. And to not receive much when you give so much is obviously very frustrating. But look at it this way: You just keep "serving" for Jesus' sake. Let God handle the "end results" and their seemingly indifference. And GREAT will be your reward in Heaven....theBerean

chrisitans are to support and encourage each other, if your not getting that from them, why not start your own? Pray and ask God for guidance as to what and where He would have you go or do...
