Some people call lower back tattoos "tramp stamps" because they associate them with the largest group to have those types of tattoos - young girls.

It's really too bad, because some of the "tramp stamps" are actually very pretty work, but because of this stereotype, the style has been given a bad rep.

Well you'd have to be age 21 a bit before 1995 to know where tramp stamps originated. It started with the outcasts also known as strippers. Not all of them had them, but out at the clubs it was the strippers who stood out like sore thumbs with their tattoos. They were skanks, sluts, and got around with the boys. So because they were the ones with the tattoos, they became the tramp stamps. So as time went by, the younger women started to follow the strippers tramp stamp trend without knowing it. LOL... It doesn't matter what you are though. If you have them? You're more likely to be used, and kicked out the door like the strippers were. I mean you look like a stripper, what else do you expect? :)

Being old enough to remember all the hot classy chicks with no tattoos at the clubs, and then the stripper tramps would show up. They would crash the dance floor, and we'd all be watching... Ewwwww.... lol

you're right. it is ignorant and a total stereotype.
as with every stereotype there is some truth SOME of the time. of course sometimes a girl with a lower back tattoo is a tramp. SOMETIMES. just like some asians are horrible drivers. and some people who grow up in the ghetto turn into criminals. and some skinny girls have eating disorders. as you can see when you lump all people into one category it just seems ignorant. i try not to pay attention to the morons who feel the need to spew their hate and stupidity.

I can't stand that stereotype either, having a tramp stamp on my back made my 5 years in prison just awful!

it is an ignorant thing that came from people calling it a bullseye I hate the stereotype but from hearing it so much I don't want one there, I know that it doesn't mean that I'm a tramp or anything but it's got such a negative stereotype and I already have my tongue pierced so I don't need any more :)

Because they think it looks trampy - I've also heard them say that they sleep with women who have tramp stamps so they have something to look at during sex.

i imagine its because guys think because she has a tat above her butt, it makes her a $lut. i dont really get it because there are plenty of women with that kind of tattoo that are monogamous partners. it's a stereotype guys made up because they're given a piece of art to stare at while having sex (i guess).
