i'm a fussy eater, and i don't eat any vegetables and hardly any fruit. i don't eat excessive amounts of bad foods, i would probably have the same amount of 'junk food' as everyone else, its just that i don't eat any fruit or veges.
ok, that's not entirely true. at least once a month, i eat maybe some grapes or strawberries, but thats IT!
so my question is, if i continue to eat no fruit or veges, is there a serious illness/disease i could contract. is there proof of this?
ps. i don't eat fruit or veges because i really really hate the taste and texture of all of them - YES, i have tried them with an open mind and come to the same conclusion i had before - if i eat another bite i will be sick!

I've eaten very limited diets in the past, similar to what you're talking about. I also have a very bad immune system and some allergies. So because I didn't eat enough iron I became anaemic, because I ate too much sugar and not enough fibre, I had chronic diarrhea all the time. This meant that all the nutrients passed out of my body before I could digest them. I began to get chronic yeast infections and now I suffer from vulvodynia because of that. I also have hypothyroidism which is an auto-immune disease, but it came on early because my poor immune system was being overworked from not having enough nutrients.
A lot of my illness is due to not eating properly and not getting enough nutrients. I can only recommend that you don't eat too much processed junk food and also take multivitamins!

Well, you know you can LEARN to fix fruits and veggies in a way that would be appealing if you really want to. Sounds like you're making excuses just to eat junk. Yes, your health can be compromised if you don't have a good, varied diet. You can be vitamin deficient even if you take vitamins. I would suggest you try to mature your tastes a bit and lay off of the junk and stop making excuses. Godloveya.

You are missing all sorts of vitamins, such as vitamin C, (read up on Scurvy), and Potassium, and fiber which will cause you health problems. You could try taking the vitamins in pill form, but that is a poor substitute.
There are many ways to prepare veggies and fruit, there must be someway that would appeal to you. Check sites like foodnetwork.com, and other cooking sites for recipes.

fruits and vegetables are very important in lowering your risk for many types of cancer. The FDA counts vegetable and fruit juices as a serving. As long as you are getting your fruits and vegetables in some form and are supplementing with a good multi-vitamin your risk of cancer or other diseases will be lessened than if you had no intake of the necessary vitamins and minerals at all. Good Luck to you and God Bless

I think that you are asking this question, in hopes of finding someone that will tell you, it's okay... Well it's not... You wouldn't put gas in your car ,but not give it oil and tuneups! Would you? No, because everyone knows if you want to keep something running, you have to give it what it needs. If your body doesn't get the fuel it needs,it starts to breakdown.Diabetes, kidney failure(too much meat)Scurvy,Diverticulitis, hemorroids, liver failure,Gall stones,Kidney stones. If you don't like the texture or taste, buy a food processor and pulverize them and put them in soups or smoothies, add fiber to your diet with high fiber breads.Make meatloaf and add your pulverized veggies to the mix. You'll never know they're there. But eat right!

you can't GET a disease from lack of eating fruit that I know of , but you CAN risk your bowel health. If you aren't eating your fruits and vegies, you can face some pretty serious reprocussions from it--anywhere from chronic constipation to colon cancer and anything in between....If you don't like your fruits and vegies, talk to a healthfood store clerk about supplements, or at very least supplement with things like V8 drinks....at least that way you are getting the benefits of fruits & vegies and not getting grossed out by their taste and texture.

My guy friend has scaly, peeling skin. Face, body throughout.
I cringe whenever I chat with him. I do not discriminate against him yet I feel totally uncomfortable seeing all his croc- like skin...
He doesn't have any birth defects.
Reason being he hates vegetables and fruits. And he would rather die then ingest them.
I am a veg and fruits lover myself.
Pop vitamin pills I would suggest.

fruit and vegetables have fiber, minerals, antioxidants, potassium & vitamins to manage weight, and help prevent cancers, heart problems and chronic diseases (yes there's proof from studies)- i suggest looking up recipes and try different ways to eat what you like, go to gourmet and ethnic food stores, you should be open minded to new tastes too, they have stuff people never heard of-- mix fruit (berries if thats what u like) with yogurt and juice or ice for smoothies- if you can't stand plain veggies, have tomatoes & onions on burgers and sandwiches, cream soup- try dried fruit (or cereal with it) there's alot of ways to get protein and vitamins like milk, soy and whole grains
