My computer got infected by various Trojans and spybots. I keep trying to fix it by downloading antispyware but as soon as I start the download, my computer says 'application failed to initialize because Windows is shuting down'. Then my computer proceeds to restart, terminating my download. (I use Windows XP)

Alot of spyware will not let you download cleaners to clean it up your best bet is to go to the library to use there computers or an other non infected computer to download cleaners onto a disk then use it to clean your own. You may also try to download directly other then from the site for example cnet.com as downloads that may or may not be attached to the web site in questions but rather mirrors. OMG! My old one did the same thing. I took it to a repair shop where they did what they could but they had to put in a new hard drive - the old one was really burned or something...

You shoud get yours to a compdoc as well or you can try by installin the windows again. But let me warn you: DO NOT download antyspyware from the net! They're all infected with something. It's better to pay in a store where you buy better ( but not necessary the best since that doesn't exist) antyspyware. I would recomend BITDEFFENDER or maybe PANDA but you should ask people who work there or the people that are gonna fix your comp for advice.

But there's no 100% protection for your computer...the best cure/protection is to unplug the modem but noone who tasted the sweetness of the net is gonna do that=)

Right now the best thing you can do is to shut the comp down and take it to a specializied compdoc!

Oh, and one more thing... you can't have more than one antivirus or antispyware on your comp cuz they get into a "fight". I lost one of my comps cuz I didn't know that...

GOOD LUCK!

First I would make sure there isn't a program that is shutting down your computer that starts when you boot up your computer.

Start>Run>type in msconfig...go to the startup tab and uncheck any unnecessary program. If you are unsure what programs to uncheck here are some links to help you with that

Then try an online scan
