Nederlands or Dutch is the most similar language to English. It is also similar to German. Since it is spelled with English letters you can learn it quickly.

Ik kan Nederlands spreken - I can speak Dutch (not really nor can I spell it, but you get the idea)

The hardest language is probably cantonese cause it has about 6-9 tones. Also you gotta memorize all those hanzi.

In any case knowlege of a second language is always good.

Icelandic is tougher via a ways. Dutch is closely stimulated via French and German, like what english is. The Dutch sentence constitution is nearly the identical. To talk satisfactory dutch you'll take an english sentence, switch the phrases for Dutch ones, whatever you cant translate you pronounce the phrases in a dutch accessory and you're well to move. Icelandic is an entire on Scandinavian language. Unique pronunciation and bizarre spelling. Tenses and phrase order is distinct to english.

Well I'm not sure how hard it is on a scale from one to ten, but it's definitely not the hardest. I don't see why it would be than any other romance or germanic language. I have tried learning it and the one thing that comes tricky to me is the pronunciation of a few vowel sounds, but the grammar or vocab doesn't seem too difficult.

You're, kidding right?

Dutch is perhaps one of the easiest languages to learn and understand. I live in Germany, and can speak German fairly fluently (to a greater or lesser degree ^^'), but I travel to the Netherlands several times a year. Usually, I can understand what they are saying - it's almost like a softer version of German with a more English cognates. :)

Maybe it is not the hardest one but it is a difficult one.

For Jac who says it is easy, it is normal because she speaks German and both languages are similar.
To wizard, where did you get from that it is similar to English?

My husband is Dutch and is here next to me, laughing his head off.
