Oh Forky, we think alike! I've been saying that for years.
We seem to be the only living thing on this earth which is capable of causing its destruction. And from the evidence we see... depleting the ozone, raping the soil for minerals, gems, etc, polluting the waters, nuclear weapons, global warming.... so many more thing.... we ARE destroying the planet. If the planet is a "living thing," we are killing it, and since our numbers are growing without hindrance, YES, I agree we are cancer.

Humans are an extremely adaptable species of placental mammals. So adaptable in fact that they are able to extract resources from almost any ecosystem. Were some catastrophy to strike the Earth humans would be amongst the last species standing. Because this extraction of resources is inevitably at the expense of other species and even entire ecosystems; some people chose to describe humans as destructive. Beavers some ants and many other organisms alter the ecosystems they live in to their advantage. Is that damage?
Humans are free living animals not parasites. Cancer is an internal disease at the cellular level.
In general humans tend to farm small highly productive areas leaving over 90% of land mass and 95% of total ecosystem areas esentially intact, at least as far as survival of other species is concerned. Unfortunately fragmentation of habitate can leave some species vulneable to changes.
Humans are not about to change the ecological processes enough to threaten the Planet. In fact farm ecosystems are more efficient in this regards. Just less diverse.
Perhaps you could place this question in Social Science or Religion; it doesn't fit here!!

Have you watched the Matrix much, Mr. Anderson?
I think we do some of the same things as cancer, but I would not classify us as such. We're just crazy animals gone atomic...
We are growing and growing at a fast rate, but only as a people, not as a single entity. Well, some of us are getting really big, so maybe those people are cancers...
Anyone watching us through a microscope either created us or would find us to just be some weird crazy creatures that don't know how to treat what they have. Though we are doing stupid things, we DO know what we're doing. So at least we are intelligently destroying our home, unlike cancer that doesn't know it is destroying its home.
At least cancer can say, "Dude, I don't even have a brain. Chill out."

Whether we are a cancer or virus it all boils down to the same thing: We, as individuals or as groups, are destroying the very place we live. Our intelligence only goes so far and then breaks down. What we may think will be a great idea(s) turns out to have bad effects down the time line.
You may not believe in gobal warming and its effects now but keep watching and listening and I am sure you will become a believer sooner rather then later.

no more like a specie out of control like a plague
that is spreading over the planet .
and we have broken the Law of equilibrium and should not be suprised if nature responds violently .
there are two moments in the existence of a specie when exstinction is the most likely ,
when there are to few ,and when there are too many
in Nature everybody is welcome, but nothing is permitted to exist in excess, when something does it is a plague ,an infestation ,and Nature responds by sending preditors or disease.
this is called -the law of Harmony or Equilibrium-
the oldest 2nd Law of Nature,
humans tend to forget that they are components of an overall interrelated series of events in a collection of eco systems, all bound by the medium of water ,we are all made up of mostly water (99 molecules out of 100 are water )this goes for plants ,trees animals and us
and we are bound by the same laws as everything else
life is found in a series of escalating dimensions ,we are planets or gods to the billons of microbes that infest us and that are part and parcel of our existance,
so it stands to reason that the same concept continues upwards as well as down ,meaning that we may be the microbes on a larger form of life .
this is called Gaia the consciousness of Mother Earth
and maybe by now she is a little upset by our arrogant dominance of her surface and the harm that we are causing
and just maybe¿¿¿¿¿¿ the Earth quackes ,tidal waves ,tornados ,diseases are a symptons of Gaias displeasure
just maybe

Actually, Humans are more like a virus than a cancer, but the end effect is the same... they are destroying the earth and will become extince because of it.

i think of we are component of an atom and earth is an electron or proton, interior the atom. The cellular is the Galaxy, and the whole universe is a being wherein we are section. we are meant to maintain the component of the atom we are on and we are becoming over crowded so now our planet or atom section is breaking down and we can destroy it as quickly as we ultimately attain a factor the place our worldwide can now no longer help us and our orbit interior the atom.

No, we are the same as all species, blindly following evolution. Humans have actually had less impact on the Earth than the coral polyp.
