Some people have told be right after birth, but I seem to doubt that. Anyone have a real answer to this?

Introduce them to people as soon after birth as possible. as long as the mother is not nervous about it. Cats have a tendency to become feral very easily and the more they are handled and the more people they are around, the netter companions they will be.

I held my cats new kittens at a day old. As soon as the Momma cats allows it, then by all means go for it. My vet said the earlier the better. Some momma cats wont allow you to handle the kittens for a few weeks though.

Yup, I agree with everyone else, as soon as they are born is fine so that they get used to human contact right away. They shouldn't be separated from their mother and taken to new homes until they are at least 8 weeks though - 12 weeks for pedigrees.

kittens can be touched by humans right after birth, if the mother cat allows it. it wont harm them.

i agree with this. cats who already live with people will not be averse their beloved owner to handle the kittens. just make sure that you pet and show the mother love, dont ignore her jsut because there are cuter kittens!

I always pet my newborns and gradually do more and more as their development increases. You have to give them human contact!!! You do not want a litter of feral kittens.
