And how long before I quit wanting to pick up the phone and call him? This relationship has been over for him for a long time, but it's easy and convenient for him so he'd just assume stay even though he's already decided he doesn't want anything long term with me. Get this - he'll leave when the next best thing comes along, but until then, he doesn't see any reason for us to break up because something better may never come along and I'll get to keep him by default, at least day by day. Huh? I decided to pick up my pride and move on, but my pride is seeming less important by the minute! lol He's so sweet and so nice and has really helped me out the last 3 years of my life - he just doesn't love me! But I sure love him... Actually I guess I just need y'all to call me an idiot and tell me to leave the dang phone alone!

He's sweet and nice?! Huh?? Exactly what is so sweet and nice about a guy you openly say just uses you to fill in till he finds someone else?? Sure you two have many good memories together, and I'm positive that while you're together he doesn't truly mistreat you in such a manner as to appall society. Yet, you know as soon as they next girl catches his eye he's out the door to get in bed with her.

Certainly doesn't sound sweet or nice to me. You're choices here are limited. Either end things completely and indefinitely, or use him as he uses you. Sever the emotional ties and just enjoy him until you find someone else. I don't personally condone the latter of those options but to each their own.

Move on. Please don't get caught in that trap. My best friend is in exactly the same situation. She knew after 6 months together that he doesn't love her and that he is never going to marry her or have children, something she longs for! They met when she was 19, she is turning 30 in 3 weeks time and still no commitment. She just can't leave him, she thinks she's not strong enough, but I know she is, I know she deserves so much more and there is a wonderful new life out there waiting for her to open her eyes and start living. A man out there who will love appreciate and respect her. You can do this, keep strong, call a friend to come over and support you, get a hobby, anything, just don't waste her life and potential on a dead beat man!

You did the right thing unless you like being a second choice. As far as how long does it take to get over someone, it is different for everyone. You need to take the step towards getting over him. Go out, see other people. Stay busy. If he see you with another person, he will see that you are not just gonna be a second choice.

You aren't a idiot...some break ups are very emotional to the person that cares. The one that does the original break up is the one that is unhappy.

Regroup yourself and move on. The memories are hard to forget but the future is always there. Be strong, the experiences will make you wiser.

CONGRATULATIONS for moving on from this "nice" person who kept you on as a convenient option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds like he treated you as a sisterly f**k friend, so no need to be bitchy at any point, but DO NOT let him walk over you again!

you will soon find a man who loves all of you and isnt looking over his shoulder for the better option or who thinks the grass is greener on other side!!

he may well come back with his tail between his legs when he sees you getting on with life and getting out with friends, male and female, but treat him as a brotherly person and do not let him trick you into going back with him as he will not change.

well done you, and good luck with your next man!

1 to 5 years.
depending on your luck, opportunities, and space.
It is also all in t he head. You can control this with will power, just like quitting smoking, or dieting.

try. love yourself, and that's where things will go better only for YOU.

Tell him what does guys like him and a soccer ball have in common? You kick them both to the curb. Then do it.
