I have owned four police cars and liked everyone of them. My 1989 Dodge Diplomat still graces my garage. However, due to the tough life and long hours police cars lead, I would be especially cautious before buying one. Two of mine were fairly troublesome. I would be prepared to be resourceful. 2004 was the last of the three years the Intrepid was available with a police package. Contrary to the dominance Chrysler vehicles displayed in the decades prior to leaving this market after a shortened 1989 production run, the Intrepid supposedly captured only about 5% of police car purchases.

As I remember, the spotlight(s) go through the A pillars and a large notch is cut out from the front door(s) to give the lights room to move. On my police cars, I left the spotlights on when so equipped. Otherwise I used rubber plugs (not body work) to seal the holes. You also might want to clean up the edges of the holes and paint them to prevent rust before installing the plugs.

Yes you sure can. The manufacturer of the spotlights actually make a rubber grommet that fits perfectly, go figure. It's made just for that exact purpose. It's a rubber plug, nothing special but they do exist. Otherwise...yep...body work. I think a rubber plug from a SUV differential (durango) would fit also if you couldn't find anything else.

First of all, you are thinking of buying this car that a cop has drove and put several miles on it and you know it has been drove hard. My question is, Are you crazy? I mean no offense, but where I'm from our officers drive pedal to the metal. So if you are really serious about this vehicle you might want to have a computer hooked up to it to make sure there is nothing wrong w/ it.

There is a more important concern: cops couldn't care less how much it costs to keep this thing on the road - we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill. Do YOU care?
