Atheists lack belief in the existence of gods. Atheism is not a belief, but that does not preclude atheists from believing in supernatural or spiritual concepts other than gods.

That atheist site's even more scary than some of the extreme religious sites...
Atheism means nothing more or less than a lack of belief in god(s), specifically those of the interventionist kind. It doesn't imply any "substitute" belief.
I'm truly appalled at the groups which are trying to make it into an us versus them scenario - these people are not atheist, they are anti-theist, and I wish they'd be honest about it. Certainly there are valid reasons for organising groups against situations and organisations, but this is just adding another layer of "difference" where none needs to exist. Those who say that "all wars are fought over religion" need to be careful that they're not creating a scenario whereby they bring about another one.

Atheists are people who don't beleive in god or anything requiring magic or supernatural intervention. They beleive in facts over beliefs which are based on science not a book. Everyone is born atheist but are indoctrined into a religion their parents have chosen. I'm an atheist who was indoctrinated into a Christian sect.

As an atheist I will not believe something without a good reason. In my case, any sort of god, anything supernatural, any claims of afterlife, reincarnation, and so on, I think all this is totally unlikely and outright absurd.

I believe that only we as human beings are responsible for the good and evil in the world. I chose not to place my fate in the hands of non existent forces , it's a cop out. ie it was gods plan for me / the devil made me do it. The only person we have to answer to is ourselves and our own conscience.

Ann Dee - so, Harry Potter exists because atheists take time to read about him? Please, for your own sake, try not to use "Therefore" again until you have some idea what it means.
Brilliant, Ann Dee... equate my typo with your nonsense... nice try. Blind faith yields mushy brains.

icarus62 pretty much summed it up.
Atheism is not a position about a belief in something. Atheism is the belief of a lack of something (i.e. god)

They believe it's their duty to insult a God that they claim doesn't exist. He exists enough for them to take the time to rifle through the Bible and misinterpret what little they read. Therefore, He does exist, they just won't admit it because they don't t want to sacrifice their perceived freedom and control. John H - You've got a typo in there, Dude. THEREFORE, let he who is without spell check not cast the first stone.
