I do sometimes. I'm glad it's them and not me. I'm not trying to be an idiot here, just honest. What about you lot?

I used the term 'cheering on' as a bit tongue in cheek. What I refer to here is when you watch them on the news.... there has been indepth reports on both the BBC and Sky News.

Craz-r-n-u - actually I don't support the war, but that doesn't mean I don't support the troops. They don't get to choose their battles sadly.

I am really only addressing those like me who haven't served time in the military and are not likely to.

I guess it would depend on where you are in your life, and what you have personally done with it. I'm not in England, as I suspect you are, but the same holds true with the American military as it does with the British military. Having served in the US military for over 22 years, I have no guilt what-so-ever, about the people serving now. More like I did my part, and now you are doing yours. Great work, keep it up. If on the other hand, a person had not served in the military, nor did an active participation of any kind, I could see how this might give them that feeling. Remember, it's never to late to do something. You may not be eligible, do to age or physical ability, but there has to be volunteer organizations around that directly affect the morale of the troops. Doing a part, any part will ease the feeling of guilt. Good luck.

No. Having served when I was a young man, having had a brother who served 23 years, etc, I have no problem cheering them on.

I'm more puzzled about people who say they support the troops, yet undermine them by not supporting a goal of victory. Troops would rather win, even at personal cost, than to have politicians prevent them from winning, which mocks their sacrifices.

As an old soldier I feel it is my right to give full and total support to our Military [UK] and also to support right up to the hilt the forces of the United States of America. They're all doing a great job under extreme and difficult circumstances. They all need to know that us folks back home are supporting them. That's how it is.

No. I served for 26 years.

I cheer for the troops and sneer at the anti-war protesters.

I am with you on this Mucky, the lads and lasses of the British forces make you feel proud of em.

Even though I am not in favour of the war, especially as they are fighting the unknown rather than another group of soldiers in uniform. Like when we kicked the Argies off our islands.

As a mom with dependents and being over the acceptable age to join up, no I don't feel guilty.

What I DO feel, however is a Deep sense of gratitude and debt.

What you can do is show your gratitude in action. When you see a soldier buying a coke and a candy bar at the gas station, pay for it for him and tell him thanks for everything he does.

If you see a soldier out with his family at dinner, buy them an appetizer or a dessert or both. Or spring for the whole meal if you can afford it.

Money doesn't appease a guilty conscience, but the act of "it's on me" shows support and gratitude. And let's face it, Soldiers don't exacly get lots of company perks...

Yes, I do. I don't think the reason we went to war is right ( personal opinion) But, I cheer our guys and gals on everyday. My brother was overseas in Iraq for almost 2 years, thankfully he came back safely. But, his unit did not come home whole. They lost one guy and 2 more were severely injured. The units homecoming was bittersweet....While we were very happy that he was home, we were very saddened that all of them didn't make it home together. So, everday, I cheer on the guys that are still there, and pray that every one of them stay as strong as they can, and come home to their families safely.

You are not an idiot!!! I fully understand your term cheering on. I too watch the news and will say to myself..."go get them...you can do it". Sometimes you do feel like a cheerleader. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

Better to support our troops. It doesn't matter how you do it....just as long as you do!!!

** To the little person below me - You bet your **** that I mean with FULL SUPPORT to "GO GET THEM"!!! I fully support this war, our troops and our President!!! You seem to forget that because of our military...you have the right to sit on your couch and say what you say.

Its their choice of career so why feel guilty?
I was in the TA for a while and just missed going on tour.
I do feel a bit guilty sometimes but also realise we all have our part to play in society.
They are the soldiers and we are the workers back at home doing our jobs. It just so happens they get shot at for a living!

Hope that helps - and your not the only one who shouts at the telly!

I occasionally feel the same way. No amount of cheering on or care packages can approach what our military personnel face in Iraq and Afghanistan. God bless them.
My youngest son will enter USMC boot camp in a few months. I'm proud and I'm frightened, all at the same time.
