Glands can stay swollen for several weeks to a month or two. It's not uncommon.

One thing that can help is to massage downward on the gland several times a day. This will often bring down the swelling. You might want to have it a professional massage therapist work on you. These problems are usually not that serious.

It is unusual for them to go down longer than say 3 weeks or so. It is probably infected and needs some medication. Doctors do not like to prescribe antibiotics right away anymore. This is why they told you to come back if it didn't go away on its own.

Good luck

I would also go to the dentist. It may be a dental problem. An infection of the gland is a really nasty thing to go through . I wouldn't wait too long.
