The Bible does not specifically say anything about child abuse. I am not aware of a single instance in the Bible where a child is being abused. What the Bible does tell us is this: Children have a special place in God’s heart and anyone who harms a child is inviting God’s wrath upon Him. Jesus welcomed little children to His side (Mark 10:14). Jesus had harsh words for anyone who would cause a child to stumble, “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” The Bible tells parents to be gentle and loving with their children (Ephesians 6:4; Colossians 3:21). So, even though the Bible does not specifically mention child abuse – it is abundantly clear how God feels about the issue.

Deuteronomy 19:18-21 says this:

If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid."

Jesus also says this in Like 12:47-48 (note that he is talking about servants (slaves), but the tone is indicative of his attitiude toward physical punishment) :

"And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to is will, shall recieve a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall recieve a light beating."

So, while that doesn't specifically answer your question, botht he old and new testaments specifically allow for physical punishment.

Also the fifth commandment (Exodus 20:12) might be of interest:
"Honor your father and your mother."

That would have to be what you defined as child abuse. There are part in the bible that talks about a child that will not behave or do as their parents say, that they should, after taking them in front of the town counsle and if that still does not work they should take them to the gates of the town and "put them to death". Is that child abuse...?

There are ways of telling a child about right and wrongs, Parents, in general use harsher ways because they think this is the most right thing to do but we should always keep this in our mind that there are ways varies from softer to hard strengths..One should always try to make children understand by telling them first and then adopting harder ways.

Leviticus 20:9 Any child that curses his mother or his father shall be put to death.

Obviously, the biblical god did not have much regard for human , or animal for that matter, life.

the "rod" is a shepherd's cane, used for guidance to gently tap on the ankles of the sheep causing them to stay in line.

it's unfortunate that this has been interpreted and used to justify anything from beating, to corporal punishment, to spanking.

violence begats violence.

the NEw Testament does say 'fathers do not exasperate your children"

You know the basics of right from wrong. If you think it is abuse, then don't do it. Pray about it.
