The crafty little anti-Islam page on domini.org states:

"The Qur'an states:

"Righteous women are therefore obedient, And those you fear may be rebellious (nushuz) admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them."

"Some translators add the word lightly after 'beat them' in Q 4:34. Others like Mohammed Pickthall and Rodwell translate the word 'edrebouhon - beat them' as 'scourge them'. [...] But "a beating without causing injury" (agreed upon)

"So the man has the right to beat his rebellious wife as long as that beating is not like the whipping of the slave and will not result in injury."

Of course the above is false and tendentious but couched in the syrupy style typical of missionaries.

The hadith in Muslim states that the Prophet (pbuh) in his Farewell Pilgrimage said: "Lo! My last recommendation to you is that you should TREAT WOMEN WELL.

Truly they are your helpmates, and you have no right over them beyond that - EXCEPT IF THEY COMMIT A MANIFEST INDECENCY. If they do, then refuse to share their beds and hit them WITHOUT INDECENT VIOLENCE . Then, if they obey you, do not show them hostility any longer. Lo! you have a right over your women and they have a right over you. Your right over your women is that they not allow whom you hate to enter your bed nor your house. While their right over them is that you treat them excellently in their garb and provision."

Note:

EXCEPT IF THEY COMMIT A MANIFEST INDECENCY = fahisha mubina (which means) : immorality that may lead to adultery

WITHOUT INDECENT VIOLENCE = fadribu hunna darban ghayra mubarrih

· Mubarrih = defined in al-Mawrid as "violent, intense, severe, acute, sharp, excruciating, tormenting, agonizing."

Qatada said as narrated by al-Tabari in his Tafsir (5:68): "Ghayr mubarrih means ghayr sha'in = not disgraceful/ outrageous/ obscene/ indecent [beating]."

· Muhammad Asad translates it over-figuratively as “not causing pain”

After this, whatever Muslim man derogates to the recommendation of the Prophet (pbuh) has violated his covenant with the Prophet and shall be called to account for it; and whoever of the non-Muslim men or women claims - even the Archbishop of Canterbury and his wife - that beating women is allowed in Islam, has belied the Divine witness invoked by the Prophet and shall be called to account for it in the Divine Court.

God says that if there is more than one meaning to something that we should take the best meaning possible.....another definition of idrib besides beat is separate....so taking the best meaning possible would mean to separate from your wife in preperation for possible divorce if all other means of reconciliation have failed(or at least as a cooling off period before the next go around). God does not sanction violence except in self defense and in times of war and those have strict guidelines too.

Beating in Quraan does imply "hit" but it surely differs from challenge to yet another. There's an incident in which Aisha disobeyed the prophet in a single occasion and he used to be correct at the same time she used to be incorrect, he took his stick and touched her at the arm, displaying that he used to be no longer joyful approximately it. You recognize that during Islam, a girl is damned if she disobeys her husband, however there are limits. This is in which men and women combine up matters and others get stressed. It is certainly mentioned that disobeying a husband is incorrect if the husband used to be correct, for instance if he instructed her to not pass out along with her pal (having a well cause) or different matters. People take it that she needs to be his slave which isn't the case. Beating right here is also the equal idea. It is endorsed for guys to make it transparent to their ladies that once they disobey, that they don't find it irresistible. They can both exhibit it by way of giving them a seem, or jogging away or as it's mentioned to hit. Muhammad (PBUH) accurately responded the questions for a few Muslims that the hit will have to no longer harm, it will have to be identical to a caution or a signal that the spouse is incorrect. The hit will have to no longer be to the face or any touchy discipline. But sure, Daraba in Quraan way "beat" or "hit". Wallahu A'alam

I agree with you.
The "Jahileen" or "Juhala" don't understand the implications and further orders given by the Qur'an.
Qur'an is very clear and its explanations are clearer.
There are some people who are not ready to accept Islam even they believe it is the right religion e.g. Umar bin Hasham (Abu Jehl) knew that Islam being the right religion is true every time but he never accepted it. That's why he was declared "Mal'oon".

The Great Scholar Mustafa Mahmoud states on this point:

"Beating a woman in Islam must be by slight spanking that leaves no bruises or marks.. and the verse mentioning this stated this for the rebellious women, in another word which is close to nowadays understandings; "Dominant women".. those who are willing to punish their husbands, beat them, or cheat .. those women tends to control the man and change him to a puppy, so if she brought a man to her bad her husband can't object.. in this case the only way to end this behaviour at the very beginning is to desert her in bed.. which is a disarmament of her most powerful weapon: SEX...

Slight beating comes as a final solution after advice.. Such women who practice female domination are mentally ill, and slight beating - as proved by scientists - may be a cure for such cases."

You deserve a star here.

Generally, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to discourage his followers from taking even this measure. He never hit any female, and he used to say that the best of men are those who do not hit their wives. In one hadith he expressed his extreme repulsion from this behavior and said, "How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel and then embrace (sleep with) her?” (Al-Bukhari, English Translation, vol. 8, Hadith 68, pp. 42-43)

Any excess, cruelty, family violence, or abuse committed by any "Muslim" can never be traced, honestly, to any revelatory text (Qur'an or Hadith). Such excesses and violations are to be blamed on the person(s) himself, as it shows that they are paying lip service to Islamic teachings and injunctions and failing to follow the true Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Thanks for the explanation of that. Christianity is the true religion of hate. Look at their behavior, crusades, inquisition, forced conversions in the new world, sanctioning of the holocaust, jim jones, Salem witch trials; now their making Islam out to be the great evil, give me a break........
They preach love, but practice hate.
