My boyfriend seems to have no time for anything and I am not hearing from him very much at all. Last week, he sent me a two line email saying that he is swamped with work and underway time.

This could be very true. We are in a war now. Gone are the days of endless liberty ports. Right now they prepare for exercises and then when they get to ports, they do the excesses. During a six month deployment, they will be lucky to get two port visits.
Now also know that email and phone communication from the ship is very very unstable. I've sent my husband emails that he didn't get till they got back!!!!!! And vice versa!!!
Hang in there. While there away...that's when your imagination will get the best of you. Try to find things to keep you occupied. Enjoy some "you" time.

It depends on what they're doing while in port. I know there are some work schedules where it feels like I never see my DH because he's got so much to do. And if he's underway doing workups for anything...swamped barely covers it.

whileat sea, their days are 20-22 hours long. while in port, they drop down to about12-14 hour days.
If they are gearing up to deploy, it's very possible that he has no time to himself.
