What have you done lately to make yourself proud.

So all those Christians can stop thinking that we are all horrible evil people.

I am polite, hard-working and pleasant to people. I don't smoke or take drugs and rarely drink. I study hard and try to get on in the world. I make the most of this life, since I don't believe there is another one after this.

This weekend I am helping a friend give up smoking by being with her all day so she can get over the 24 hour hour craving.

My parents are proud of me and my partner loves me.

And they say Satanists are evil ;o)

Helped an old lady regaining her lost purse in another train station than I work in, lending her money so she could get it from there. (I cannot leave my workplace myself).
Printed information about the discount for blind people for a blind discount holder and gave it to him, so the conductors cannot make him pay 55% instead of 50%, when he has no valid ticket upon entering the train, as is usual for other discount holders.
Watched an hyperactive AND autistic kid so it didn't hurt itself while the upset, because recently cheated mother was doing something.
I often have to watch kids because the parents don't - I hate kids, but I don't hold it against them and let them hurt themselves *G*

And my job is only giving information about train times and prices o_O

I don't have anything splashy to share, but I try very hard to live my life with integrity. I go above and beyond at work to help our clients, even to the point of my supervisors saying I am doing too much, as my production suffers. (Corporate America sucks)

I think ethical day to day living is the most important thing a human being can do.

By example, I have raised my children to be thinking, caring, tolerant, active memebers of society.

I volunteer with PFLAGG and Relay for Life. I tutor English Lit. and US History at the Boys and Girls Club.

I treat EVERY person I meet with a smile and the respect they deserve as a fellow human being.

I published a book in 2005. I was featured in a local newspaper for saving a man from a mugger's attack. I was recently appointed to be the director of a non-profit organization aimed at increasing votership in America. I live my life based on common sense, not fear of consequense from an invisible power. At the end of the day, I go to sleep smiling.

The problem isn't that atheists don't do good works. The central question is why we do good works. The answer is:
a) Because it is in our own best self interest and/or
b) Because it boosts our ego/self-esteem

In neither case is it because of the needs of the person or persons who are being helped. Those needs of those people are, in effect, being used to bolster our own self interest and egos. We refuse to see it that way because to see it as it is would destroy the very ego boosting effect that we are trying to achieve.

I write and sell (very cheaply) computer system that allows family support and substance misuse organisations to manage they're information better and save themselves a lot of work - in the management of they're paper work, and easily allows them to generate stats etc

I also up until very recently worked on telephone helpline as a volunteer - as the first point of contact to quite emotionaly traumatised people, sufferring the blight of substance misuse in they're familes..

I knuckled under and had a tea party with my daughter and all her stuffed animals, despite the fact that Mr. Jingles and I don't get along. It was indeed a smashing affair, and will be viewed as a social gathering to be emulated by all.

I'm a regular blood donor (I'm working on my ninth gallon). I donate to CARE and I belong to organizations like Amnesty International. I write to my Congress members about issues I care about. I work for gay rights. I've planted trees, raised money for a battered women's shelter, and I recycle.
