Short answer: Your mother is blaming you because she's a woman. This is what women do.

Point is: It's her dog. You can't leave your dog with someone and then blame them if the dog does something wrong.
You've not sworn to guard the dog with your life, have you?
So therefore, whatever happens is her responsibility because she (yes, SHE) leaves the dog alone.
It's not the responsibility of whoever happens to be in the area at the time.

She wants a chiwawa - she should take care of it.
Owner leaves the dog alone: Owners fault.

Your mother is simply blaming you because she can't accept blame herself because that would mean she did something wrong. Many people can not accept their own wrongdoings.

If the dog did get out, to put it bluntly, someone knows exactly what happened. Those dogs are very small and they can't turn handles on doors. The best thing to do is at least try and figure out what happed and search for the dog who is probably very scared at this time. Otherwise some are just worrying about themselves and all fighting with each other. Consider the fact that domesticated dogs have been known to turn wild and make it but I'm not sure that includes the tiny ones...they are like little kids and require help from humans.

Your mom is saying things now out of anger because pets can become part of one's family too. Don't worry about it. She doesn't think you are a bad person. I'm sure there is a reason why the dog got out. It wasn't your fault so try not to be so hard on yourself, wait until your mom calms down and in the meantime help her find the dog by calling radio stations, animal shelters, ect..Good luck and it will all be better soon..XX

She's probably just still stressed out, it's a normal psychological event. Don't worry, soon enough she will understand it's not your fault, don't try and explain it or it will get even worse.

Sorry for the dog, though.

Tell her all you know is that you heard a bunch a swearing and that dog was cussing up a storm and said something about "I'm outta here." Next thing you knew the dog left.

well, if it was your responsibility to watch the dog, then it is your fault, sorry to say..however, if you weren't supposed to be watching the dog...perhaps your mom should chill a bit...incidentally, did you like the dog?
