The first thing you need to do is find a gym and a coach who can teach you the basics of Olympic-style boxing. Lifting weights and bulking up are never good ideas for boxers. A coach can instruct you on how to lift weights for upper body strength. Once you find a gym, you will learn how to properly place your feet and move, how to hold your hands and how to exercise properly, i.e., running. You shouldn't begin sparring until you have trained for at least 6 or more months. If you are serious about learning to box, please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com, tell me your city and state, and I'll send you a contact for your area.

You shouldn't expect anything if you want to take up boxing (or any sports). Do keep in mind though, you should have a goal set in mind (what do you really want out of boxing?)...

For exercises, body toning and all that comes from training so you shouldn't have any worries about that it will happen usually within the 3rd to 4th week of continuous training.

Hope this helps and good luck...

They are gonna work you non-stop to make sure you are in good shape. If you train REALLY hard they might let you step foot in the ring in as little as 6 weeks!

A gym would be the best place to start, and expect to hit and be hit.
