Yes, it is. It's a method of bypassing critical reasoning in order to create a state of increased suggestibility.

Actually, it's worse.
With hypnotism you're led into an altered state of mind until you are not technically conscious of your surroundings, so you're not as responsible for what's happening or what the hypnotist is telling you to do. And it's often for a 45-minute session, no strings attached or tirades about sin.
But with religion you're being told what to do AND you're the one in charge of breaking down your mental processes to the point where you will accept and follow the doctrine, no questions asked. So you're responsible for your own irrationality.
Religion is far worse. And not so fun.

Many of the rituals and gatherings are hypnosis.
It really does amuse me when the fundamentalist Christians condemn me for healing people using the power of hypnosis. Of which I have helps so many. Then I turn on my TV to see Their very own leaders using mass and direct hypnosis as some sort of a party trick but claiming its the 'Word of the Lord!'
Yes - they get lame people to walk etc. etc .etc but then most Hypnotherapists can. However they do not bother to find out why the person was lame in the first place. The biggest part of any work I do with clients is to empower them with self hypnosis and the tools of NLP.
Oh how dangerous their assumptions and meddling.

Dear Friend,
Surely the basis of any faith is love for God. How can you love God without free will?

Religion is anything you believe. I myself was not controlled into it. I found God/Jesus Christ personally. I know for a fact that he is real. God loves you, yes even you who is reading and mocking this.
