A Police officer can take a multi-pronged approach to help the environment and solicit his or her supervisor to help in the process.

1.Insist that report paperwork is printed on recycled paper
2.Install recycling cans at the office for paper, cans, bottles and plastic.
3.Pack your lunch, it saves you money and you won't go to a restaurant that will just use ore resources and generate more waste...
4.Do not sit and idle the car when writing reports.
5.When patrolling, take it easy on the throttle, many officers
get foot heavy and drive like their responding to a robbery in progress all the time. Taking it easy, will save your dept money and the environment.
6.Use a hand held recorder to dictate your reports, wasting paper takes up lots of energy and whiteout looks unprofessional.
7.Once you get to a call, shut the engine off, if it is dark, turn your parking lights and rear amber flashers on....

Tito really gave you a GREAT answer!
ALSO, you can be on look out on patrol for trash areas, unmarked drums, etc and report them - and follow up to make sure they are dealt with. Look for people in trucks hanging around storm drains at night. Drive by abandoned properties regularly where dumping occurs - keep the heat on by being visible at all hours so they don't know your schedule.

If people live in a pig pen they act like pigs. Clean the pen = clean the pigs.
