Baptism means, "cleansing".

Baptism is an affirmation of your faith. It has nothing to do with getting wet.

Water baptism is merely a public display of your changed life. Read Romans 6:4. However, water baptism does not save anyone. Nor is it required to go to heaven. If you're saved, you should get baptized. But being baptized doesn't save you. You can go in a dry devil, and come out a wet one!

But water baptism is scriptural.

2000 years ago people did not believe in bathing. It was considered unhealthy. Actually, if one did not have bugs crawling on them, they were thought to be sick, as the bugs would not cling to someone with a cold or fever.
Baptism represents the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. We are "buried with Him in baptism and raised to newness of life".

Baptism comes from a Greek word 'baptismo'? I think that's what it was. Anyway, it means to dunk or dip; thus baptism means to fully immerse someone in water. That's how Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist originally. The River of Jordan is no fountain! It's a deep river!

Yes, it's about religion. Baptism is a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The death is when you're dunked, burial is when you're immersed completely, and resurrection is when you come back up.
