I am sorry that your mother lies to you intentionally just to further her purposes of decieving herself she is a"good guy".
Pagans do NOT believe in Satan, nor do Satanists. Satan as the devil, is a product of Christian origin and is often considered to be who is referred to as Lucifer in the book of Isaiah (read it yourself, the passage refers to the King of Babylon, not a demon). A Satanist believes that satan represents the 7 cardinal sins of the Catholic tradition, and that without these sins playing a vital role in humanity no progress can be made. A Pagan believes in various gods who represent different unseen elements of the universe....most Pagans are actually Neo-pagans, who realize that there are no literal "gods", but simply choose to use the various gods as a way to explain the unseen forces in our universe.

I'm sorry but your mum is ignorant and lied.

Inverted pentagrams are very bad. In Christianity inverted pentagrams are believed to be the sign of lucifer. In Paganism inverted pentagrams attract things that would do you wrong.

Normal pentagrams are great. In Paganism it symbolises the 4 main elements as well as well as the spirit. It also shows your love and respect for nature if worn as a necklace, bracelet or something of that variety. In Christianity it was their symbol before the crucifix was used. It symbolised the five wounds of Jesus.

The difference between them is massive satanism is two things. An atheist group who use lucifer as a metaphor or a sect of Christianity who like the devil more. However, paganism is a way of collecting all the old mythologies into one group like how Islam and Judaism are religions. The difference is THEIR SEPARATE ******* BELIEFS!!! You can't believe in Danu, Allah, Odin and the Flying spaghetti Monster at the same time - unless your that guy from Life of Pi. There is just no sense behind it.

A pentagram is a star within a circle. The circle is a symbol that represents many things. Among these is unity. The star usually represents 5 specific elements of being. The star within the circle is a representation of these elements being contained as a single whole.

Paganism is usually defined as a non-Christian belief system.

Many belief systems use symbols that do not correspond to Christianity. (The Yin-Yang symbol for instance.)

Some see the pentagram as a powerful symbol. Since this symbol is not widely accepted by the Christian faith, it can then be interpreted as "Pagan" by some.

Many Christians have labeled Pagan beliefs as Satanic. Paganism includes all beliefs other than Christianity. Satanism could be looked at as a type of Paganism. (It could also be looked at as a type of Christianity.)

The use of the pentagram as a symbol implies a "user". The "user" determines the meaning of the symbol.

Key point to remember-

anything not related to Christ is Pagan. (EVERYTHING is related)

anything related to Satan is Satanic (EVERYTHING is related)

anything related is the responsibility of the one relating

Satanism and Paganism are, for the most part, two different things. (There's a few "brands" of Satanism that could arguably be called Pagan, but most of them aren't.)

The pentagram is a symbol that some members of both groups use. Most Satanists typically use an inverted pentagram, while most Pagans who use the pentagram typically use the upright one. (There are, of course, exceptions to that in both cases.)

Of course, they're not the only groups to use the pentagram; early Christians used to use the symbol as well, to symbolize Christ's five wounds.

Paganism And Satanism

Sorry your mom is wrong about it, after all im a pagan and the star on the circle symbolizes the five main elements, fire, water, earth, wind, and spirit. DYK that the early chrisitians use the pentagram as a symbol for jesus' five wound before they resorted to what we now knownas the "Cross" . So pls dont mix up satanism and paganism for they could be offensive toward us and some other pagans! Thank you

Actually there are two main types of pentagram. Only pointed down/reverse/moon pentagram is considered to be a sign of Satanism or any LHP religion. Sign itself is very old but assignation of inverted pentagram (often with goat head) to Satanism is relatively fresh thing. It is used in Traditional Demonolatry probably over 100 years and in Satanism in present meaning (both in modern/symbolism Satanism and Theistic Satanism).

I am pagan and trust me when I say that we don't believe in satan, we don't even have a god that is anything like him. The pentagram means several things: earth air fire water spirit is the most common ( don't quote me on that this is just from everyone I know). I don't actually know any satanist that uses the inverted pentagram. They all get angry when someone asks them about it and say its only a media/movie thing and that none of them have ever used one. And I'm rambling.

I don't think that a lot of pagans even believe in Satan... So I guess it wouldn't be the same. The pentagram is a symbol of the fourth elements and mother nature or some thing like that... I don't know, that's what I read in one of those Wicca websites... hehehehe

Satanism is an atheistic philosophy. Paganism has the ability to not be. They are differnet animals.

A pentagram that is upside down is a Baphomet, in which matter is prefered. A point up pentagram is spirit over matter.

Please tell your mom that the two religions are two totally different things.

And you got your information from a christian.

Satanism worships Satan and they use the signal of Baphomet, the five pointed star with the goats head in the middle. And this symbol only featured in 1969 with a man named Anton Szador La Vey who was the founder of the first Satanic Church above ground. Satanists don't believe in Satan they believe in mystical being and only a representation of what they believe.

Where as Paganism was around before christianity and they worship nature and believe that woman are Godesses.

As for the pentigram it is just a shape and has no magical connection at all.

Modern nature religion
Many current Pagans in industrial societies base their beliefs and practices on a connection to Nature, and a divinity within all living things, but this may not hold true for all forms of Paganism, past or present. Some believe that there are many deities, while some believe that the combined subconscious spirit of all living things forms the universal deity. Paganism pre-dates modern monotheism, although its origins are lost in prehistory. Ancient Greek Paganism, which tended in many cases to be a deification of the local deity, as Athena in Athens, saw each local emanation as an aspect of an Olympian deity during the Classical period and then after Alexander to syncretize the deity with the political process, with "state divinities" increasingly assigned to various localities, as Roma personified Rome. Many ancient regimes would claim to be the representative on earth of these gods, and would depend on more or less elaborate bureaucracies of state-supported priests and scribes to lend public support to their claims.

In one well-established sense, Paganism is the belief in any non-monotheistic religion, which would mean that the Pythagoreans of ancient Greece would not be considered Pagan in that sense, since they were monotheist, but not in the Abrahamic tradition. In an extreme sense, and like the pejorative sense below, any belief, ritual or pastime not sanctioned by a religion accepted as orthodox by those doing the describing, such as Burning Man, Halloween, or even Christmas, can be described as "pagan" by the person or people who object to them and the individuals who choose to claim this title.

Hollywood totally distorted the use of the pentigram in "Satanic" movies.

I think the most Satanic religion is Vodoo. becauase they actually do talk to demons and get demons to do their bidding to harm people.
