Alcohol is actually a depressant, not an antidepressant. A lot of times it is asssociated with suicide.

Alchohol is a depressent, that is it depresses the function of the brain...as opposed to making you feel depressed.

Alchohol depresses the function of the forebrain. This is the part of the brain that makes has a governing effect on our overall behaviour. If the forebrain is damaged our personality changes.

It is our forebrain that says, hey don't drive your car at 150 in a 40 zone. Don't jump out the window, you will be hurt, don't talk to that beautiful blond as she might laugh at you and so on.

By depressing this function we will take more risks and find ourselves free of doubts.

So yes, you will get through your day more easily. But you will face the problem that while you think what you do is good, everyone else thinks it is bad.

Like talking to the beautiful blond when you are drunk. You feel all is good, but she thinks you are not worth talking to.

Like driving fast, when you are drunk, you have no fear, but more likely to crash.

Long-term use of mind alterating substances usually has a negative impact. This includes prescribed medicines. You really need to solve the core problem, before alchohol takes over your life.

Alcohol is a depressant.. it makes you feel sleepy after drinking... you pass out if you drink to much...

It does however reduce inhibitions.. not a good thing for a person with depression...

It does relax a person... sooo if you do not have derpression and are not on anti depressants.. and taking no med's that it will interact with.. a drink at the end of a bad day will not hurt you... in moderation! It shouldnt be a daily thing.. if you need that little help every day.. then it's time to seek professional advice!

good luck

Technically alcohol is a depressant, but it really can numb you to certain stresses and make it seem easier to deal with them. It also relaxes your body. Alcohol in moderation can probably help you deal with a stressful day pretty well. In excess, you'll just cause more problems.

Alcohol is a depressant, but it is also a drug that can act like a tranquilizer if it is used in moderate amounts. Like any drug it can cause as many problems as it can resolve.

Don't get too dependent on it. It will help you deal with stress and it can help you relax. I find a beer before bed time can help me get to sleep a little quicker, but I can usually go to sleep without it.

No.

Alcohol is a *depressant* and acts like a downer. That would make it a lousy coping tool for stress. It's like a temporary solution to a much greater problem.

You can become an alcoholic or you can learn to deal with stress.

No. Alcohol is a depressant and a pathetic way to subside your problems. My best friend was murdered by someone who drank to "Pull on a difficult day with ease".

Bah.

Alcohol is a funny thing. One day it can calm you down and relax you and you want to take a nap. The next day, you are hypered up and you want to do something like dance, or party hard , or even fight.

You just never know for sure. So take it easy with the suds.

Booze after a hard day at work can at first seem calming. However if it becomes the sole method to "unwind" booze it's self becomes part of the problem.

I once used alcohol to unwind eventually I became unwound if you catch my drift.

Try finding a hobby to keep you active after work.

I enjoy hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gold prospecting.
