Frontline will work if the itching is from fleas.
Your dog might have an allergic reaction to something, usually it'll be the food you're feeding it. Or it could just have dry skin. I had that problem too. My dog was itching like crazy, I thought it was fleas but turns out she had an allergic reaction to her food. There are some ingredients in many commercial dog foods that alot of dogs are allergic to. Try feeding it a different brand of food, and some skin coat supplements or even flaxseed oil

it could be a number of reasons.
1) You dog's allergic to the food. It's always best to change food and not give the same one always.
If its the food, try feeding him human food.. Like boiled chicken/fish/mutton/beef with rice and vegetables. If you don't wanna feed him rice, you can feed him boiled potatoes with meat and other vegetables.
Some meats contain an enzyme that makes the dog itch even more. If thats the case then you should give him lamb or fish. They do not contain that enzyme.
2) He might have mites. There are 2 types of mites. The first type is easily identifiable while the second one is not. It's best to bring him to a vet to get some skin scrapes.
3)Fleas or insect bites.
If its fleas, you have to clean his bedding and your whole house. It's easy for fleas to get around. You should use a "spot on" for your dog to prevent ticks and fleas.
If there is redness on his skin and you see him biting himself senseless, I strongly suggest that you bring him to the vet. My JRT had the same problem. Good Luck to you!

My dogs had the same problem and it was mange. they got it from my parents dogs. They itched so bad that their skin was red and irritated. If you bring your dog to the vet they can test for it and give meds to treat it if it is mange, and it's expensive. You can also try washing your dog in dawn dish soap, it gets rid of any flea residue that may be left. It may also be allergies, try 12.5 (1/2 tab benadryl) or another allergy med.

Sounds like you have overdosed the dog on Frontline. I would shampoo it off and see if that helps.

Try bathing him with moisturizing dog shampoo. My parents' dog has dry skin that causes her to itch all the time.
